2012 Depth Chart (General Discussion)

SoCal, Baby!
Best version I've seen personally is here: The-Ozone: Few Surprises on Depth Chart

I'm quite surprised by the following:

1. Doran Grant is listed as co-first-team with Travis Howard.

2. Adam Griffin is second team at CB. Kudos to the young man, whose recruitment I derided. Shame on me.

3. JT Moore still listed at second team DE. Though frosh coming in will, I believe, revise that pretty quickly in the fall.

Other interesting things:

Rod Smith absent from the two-deep, along with Brionte Dunn; Meyer reportedly doesn't expect many players who weren't on the list to make an impact in the fall. (!)

Michael Bennett being listed as second-team "nose tackle" rather than second first-team DT indicates that our new staff apparently sees NT vs. DT as an important distinction.

I wonder if this rule will apply to the running backs. Hasn't he already said that Brionte is a player and will get plays this season? I think the competition at RB is a lot closer than most on this team. Neither BD or RS seemed in anyway to hurt their stock in the spring game.

I had the same thought. I don't think the 2-deep is as restrictive at RB and D-line. We can get more of a rotation going there and the younger players will get reps.

I will say, I wish we saw more of Kenny Hayes and Steve Miller (I realize Steve is currently listed but not sure what to expect come the fall). That 2011 D-Line class looked like they had a few SS-DE's and Kenny was one of my favorite recruits.

Maybe so, but Meyer was pretty firm on his expectations. While injuries always shake things up, I'm taking him at this word that he doesn't expect a great deal of playing time for those not in the two-deep (other than when the game is out of reach).

Miller in two-deep and Hayes has headaches keeping him off the field.

Hopefully, there will be plenty of THIS. I'd like to see Dunn and Smith get good reps in mop-up duty early. That could/would pay off later in the season if we get hit with injuries. I wasn't suggesting that we might have Dunn in there if a game is close in the 4th.

I will..I suggest it right here and now..Hell I want it. Look if Urban is going to have winner/loser days all through practice and in the weight room and in the classroom...Then he better have it in the 4th quarter of a tight game. That's the point isn't it? I'm not suggesting you force the ball to the kid but if he's impressed you in every other area with his performance then you play the kid in the fourth. I have no problem with a freshman tailback getting playing time for the Buckeyes.

Don't get me wrong here..if Jordan is "THE GUY" and leaves no questions about it then you don't take away his chances...I just haven't seen JH in Urban's system and to be honest other than being maybe the fastest of the backs..what else makes him the #1 RB? Heck I thought he was actually going to end up playing the ugh..hate to say it "Percy Harvin" role. Leaving the RB duty between CH and RS anyway. Just another question that maybe someone else can answer..Does this mean that the JH return days are over?

I'm sure the staff will play whomever they think will win. All Urban is saying is that he doesn't think that Dunn is that right now. Could that change? Sure, but he made it clear that's not his expectation. I'm OK with that.
