2011 Out-of-state players to watch

'11 CA DE Charles Burks

Scout $ - Burks A Force Off Edge
By Brandon Huffman
Posted Feb 24, 2010

Looks to be a bit undersized but so quick it looks like he's offsides on some plays... Great strength & plays with a lot of aggression... Seems to relish throwing people around & relentless in pursuit... Looks like a top tier D1 prospect to me... No offers yet, listing an interest in OSU, Cal, _ichigan, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, & Southern Cal

That was some impressive tape. No offers makes me wonder about grades and the ferocity in that video makes me wonder about a history of violence. :yow1:

He seemed to enjoy throwing offensive tackles to the ground more than getting to the ball.

Size is the issue with him as a player. He's definitely going to have to hook on as an OLB/ DE hybrid somewhere. His first step is electric and is obviously proficient at hand-fighting. Again, though, the problem is size as his short arms prevent him from disengaging away from the body.

Definitely a kid to watch.

'11 FL DE Curt Maggitt

No mention of OSU for a while now. I probably won't bother with posting updates on Maggitt after this unless the interest picks back up...

Curt Maggitt played most of last season with a torn labrum, yet he still finished as one of the best players on a championship-winning team. Every time he steps on the field, he brings hustle to the whistle," Daniels said. "He's so hard to block off the edge, but he also can line up down inside for us. He hurt his shoulder and he still had a great season."

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Maggitt had surgery to repair the injury and is planning to start his rehabilitation in the next few weeks. "I got injured the third game of the season," he said. "It hurt pretty bad sometimes, but we won state, so it was a great accomplishment."

Texas Tech and LSU are the most recent offers for Maggitt. Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami, South Florida, Florida International, Iowa, Iowa State, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin all have stepped up with a scholarship offer. He plans to take unofficial visits to Florida and Miami in the near future.

"I am going to be looking at the history of the school and the academic level," he said.

Grew up a fan of _ichigan due to his Dad playing basketball there... He's currently listing his top 5 as LSU, OSU, Tennessee, Purdue, & Miami-FL... The 2 biggest factors will be academics & how a team uses their TEs....

'11 WR Evan Spencer

I doubt this counts as a credible source, but i've got a friend from Illionis who knows someone that knows Evan Spencer. this person said that Spencer wants to sign with the bucks but is going to take his visits. We can only hope that this is true! Go Bucks!

High school notebook: Millwood's Shevin Patton snags Big 12 offer
BY RYAN ABER AND ROBERT PRZYBYLO
Published: March 2, 2010

...
Millwood cornerback/wide receiver Josh Turner still isn?t used to the attention his football skills have brought on. Turner recently added Alabama and Tennessee to a list of offers that already included OU, OSU, Texas, Wisconsin and others.

"It?s hectic,? Turner said after helping his team win its basketball regional Saturday night. "Sometimes I?ll get calls right before practice and have to cut it short then forget to get back with them afterward because somebody else has called.?

Turner said he could add Ohio State and LSU to his offers list. Turner is one of many Millwood players drawing D-I attention. Seven have received offers. One of the others, lineman Davion Pearson, has lost 15-20 pounds since the season and is close to dropping under the 300-pound mark. Millwood coaches said late in the season that if Pearson was able to get under that mark, he could be a recruit on par with Turner.

Deanthony Arnett makes his claim to be Michigan's No. 1 prospect - ESPN

Stock Up

In Illinois, Jordan Walsh out of Glen Ellyn (Glenbard West) is arguably the best offensive line prospect in the Land of Lincoln, but look out for Chicago (Simeon) road-grader, Christian Bryant. The 6-foot-5, 330-pounder showed excellent feet and a tremendous punch during the one-on-one drills. What was even more impressive was the fact Bryant used exceptional balance and quickness to dominate defenders. Only three schools have offered a scholarship but look for that number to increase in the next few months.
