Schlegel

I bet that Schlegel is one of the unsung heros of this team. He is just so frigging tough and hard working that a bit of him has to be rubbing off on guys like Hank, Simon and the rest of the guys.

Brewster's comments about Big Hank are going to prove to be prophetic

Beef package - something we're going to absolutely need as well. While I do miss Rolle and his playmaking abilities - it does mean we don't have something of an undersized MIKE to protect. So long as our LB's make plays sideline to sideline, I see a repeat of the 09' defensive performance against Wisky.

Great point and to that end, I don't see any major liabilities against the spread either. We simply can throw Simon in at SDE, Bellamy/Goebel + Hank at DT and Williams/Moore in at LEO. Furthermore, you have Moeller in that Rolle-type roll (no pun intended), just from the Star spot instead of at MIKE. Obviously we are fine with a more than adequate speed/size combo in Sweat and Bino at LB to round it off.

Side note: Seeing a solid crop of DT's to rotate in has me pumped...I still think interior line talent is what makes a good defense great, and a great defense elite. Any potential hiccups we might have in the secondary will be strongly mitigated by our talent up front imo.

Stopped the run with ease, however I would have liked to see the first-team d-line get a little bit more pressure on the QB. I liked it when the second and third-teamers blitzed and allowed Baldwin and Bennett to get sacks. Maybe we'll see more of that with our first-team as the season progresses.

Baldwin is a large human being.
I have been a Huge Baldwin fan since HS.

He's an amazing big Bodied athlete. I remembered some questioned his heart/motor so I'm glad he is playing well. He looks like a SSDE or DT similar to Cam in regards to his size and possibly playing more than one position.

I should also mention I couldn't find Baldwin's thread?

Does it bother anyone else that our base package is a 4-2-5 defense instead of a 4-3? It honestly bothers me going forward showing that the the coaches dont have much faith in our LB's. With 6 men in the box we are really susceptible to getting gashed in the run game and on screen plays. I like our secondary a lot but sitting back in nickel coverage is gonna hurt us. We are getting to the point in the season where teams are looking to pound the ball big ten style and our defense isn't equipped to match it. I remember how Whiskey pushed us around last year and we've yet to create much qb pressure outside of John Simon.

I haven't had too much issue with defensive scheme thus far. Isn't too much for the star or safety to walk up and give the look of a weak side linebacker - keeping 7 bodies at or near the LOS.

The linebacker play as been sub-standard for an OSU defense of late though. That too presents an issue.
