Fiutak includes Jim Otis on his list of 10 who deserved to get in but didn't make it this year.
Tommie Frazier obviously didn't get in because of the unwritten rule to only have 1 guy from a school in each year, and Will Shields from Nebraska deservedly made it this year.

Frazier was one of the winningest college QBs of all time, he was the MVP of three straight national championship games, Heisman trophy candidate in back-to-back seasons (runner-up his senior year) and he won back-to-back undisputed national championships. If that's not a first-ballot resume, I don't know what is.
There are two possible reasons for leaving him off the ballot this year, both weak:
1) The "one player per team" unwritten rule. Dumb. If they've earned it they've earned it.
2) They want Frazier to headline next year's class, and Eddie already earned that honor this year. That's also dumb, but shows respect.
Frazier will get in, I have no doubt, but these shenanigans from the Hall are dumb.

@ Bucklion - definitely I'm proud of Will for getting in. It's a great honor, and well-deserved.

Despite not winning the Heisman, Frazier can make an argument for having one of the 10 best college football careers of all time, and obviously belongs in the college HOF. But understanding why and when guys get selected for it is even more difficult to fathom than the NFL HOF.

Everyone blew a gasket over this run, but it was painfully obvious that the Gators had given up by this time - down 30+ points late in the third quarter of an embarrassing blowout on national TV, they just wanted to go through motions and get the game over with. Frazier himself said the run was not his "signature" play and downplays it to this day. That link includes a line from the Omaha World Herald writer, Tom Shatel, about the Heisman vote:
Shatel's wrong - that wasn't Frazier's signature play. But you'll never convince most people of that.
Shatel asked Frazier about that play and the Heisman vote. Tommie's reply:

Watching those also reminds me how great Orlando Pace was. What is the criteria for induction into the College Football HOF? It seems to me that Pace should have been in there the moment he was eligible.

We arrived late, and I paid some kids $20 to move a police barricade from the street, and drove to damn near the stadium gate before I parked next to some firetrucks and cop cars. Since I was not supposed to be there, they assumed I was supposed to be there, and we just confidently waved at the guard and walked to the gate.
I have to say the Husker fans are the best behaved and nicest fan base I've seen of any team kicking my team's ass.

Meh. The rumors of Frazier being an ass aren't incorrect, but that's not uncommon in top athletes. He's also mellowed quite a bit in recent years - age tends to do that to people.
Case in point - Frost was arrogant as all hell when he transferred to Nebraska after his time at Stanford. I ran into him after the Spring Game one year and he was pretty much insufferable. Fast-forward a decade and he moved in two houses down from me, and he couldn't have been a nicer guy. He'd walk his dog through the neighborhood and stop to chat all the time. If I'd never have met him later in life, I'd have still thought he was an ass.
