2011-12 tOSU Men's Hockey

Fredo of Ohio took down their Flagship 2-0, and it wasn't that close. No defensive intensity whatsoever for the Buckeyes. Fredo could have easily ran up another three goals.

Chance for a first round bye is down the shit er. We can still get a first round series at home with a win tonight and deny the Fredoites a first round bye. There's still a lot on the line, but I've lost much faith in this team. Look for the Fredoites to fill The Schott with the hockey cheers they stole from Michigan and the Jump Around they stole from Wiscy. In their quest to be just like a Big Ten school perhaps they'll adopt shower buggery from Ped Aggy.

And the collapse is complete. Ohio State hockey gets it handed to them 5-1 at home by Fredo (OH).

They've gone from #1 (in the pairwise rankings which determines the ncaa field) to going on the road in the first round of the ccha playoffs. This team doesn't deserve to make the tournament. Let them sit home and watch all 16 teams that have passed them by and think about things. And that goes for Oz too. Complete second half collapses two seasons in a row has to land at the door of the head coach.

I don't see how we can keep blaming these hockey burnouts on the head coach. The players have to step up and take some responsibility. On another note, I have a nephew who is a Ferris State graduate so my inbox was full of crap this morning:(

Perhaps. I see it as the head coach's job to ensure that a team does stay focused and doesn't lose their edge, particularly at the college level where underachievers or the lazy can't be waived or traded. Part of that is recruiting the right kind of kids, so I'm willing to give Oz some time. I'm just looking at him a little more skeptically than I was going into this season.

Tell your Ferris State friends to shut their pie holes. They went to Ferris Fucking State.

What a horrible game last night plus having most of the Miami fans sitting directly behind me sucked.

Didn't see hardly any motivation on our team plus having to pull the senior starting goalie on senior night pretty much sums up the season.

Hope coach can get things changed around next year or else I'm going to need to drink more at the games.

Hockey playoffs

Maybe they can get things turned around and gave a good performance in the playoffs.
Slumping Ohio State doesn?t have time to think about the season that could have been, when the Buckeyes were 14-4-1 and ranked No. 2. Coming off a regular season-ending 1-9-4 slide, the ninth-seeded Buckeyes have a chance at new life starting tonight in the first round of a best-of-three Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoff series at No. 8 seed Notre Dame.

?It?s lose and you?re done, basically, so everyone?s putting it all on the line; there?s nothing to save it for,? Ohio State senior co-captain Sean Duddy said. ?We?ve really been emphasizing that it?s a new season completely.?

The Buckeyes (15-13-5) are 4-0 against the Irish (17-16-3) in the postseason, and they split a two-game series in October. Those games were played in Notre Dame?s former home in the Joyce Center. This weekend?s games (today, Saturday and, if necessary, Sunday) will be played in the new Compton Family Ice Center.

Second-year Ohio State coach Mark Osiecki, trying to rebuild the program, knew there would be a price to pay with so many young players this season, but he said his message to the Buckeyes won?t change tonight.

?What we?ve said since the guys got here is, ?We?re young and dumb. You have to play young and dumb,? ? Osiecki said. ?But saying that, I mean you have to have a short memory, a lot of energy and a lot of enthusiasm. And our kids bring that, especially our young guys bring that. And they?ve got to play to those strengths.?

What a [censored]ing joke. After this debacle, next year should be make or break for Oz. It will be a program of his players who have all come up through his system and the results should be his responsibility. No more blaming it on Markell. There's a lot that I've seen this year that's not promising from the serial lack of defensive intensity to constantly winding up and taking slap shots instead of working the puck in front of the net on offense to repeatedly calling his players "young and dumb" in press conferences (maybe after the repeated public lack of respect, they gave up on you!) that are not promising.

With Ped Aggy's financial commitment, brand new hockey only facility and better recruiting ground, we could end up as the perennial punching bag of the BTHC.

Not that I expect Gene Gene the Blame Shifting Machine to take any responsibility or admit any error in his management of this program.

That's kinda why the move to the new conference doesn't really make sense to me. Michigan, MSU and OSU trade 4-8 games a year against Northern Michigan, Bowling Green, Alaska Fairbanks and Western Michigan and replace them with Minnesota and Wisconsin two consistent powerhouse programs.

I read in the Cincinnati Enquirer on Friday that the CCHA is likely to get 3-4 teams in the NCAA's. With a six team league, the B1G is getting (at most) 2 in...correct?

Georgia doesn't have a hockey team in D1 so I don't understand the divisions and I guess the new league makes sense in a long term money move.
The next five years could be brutal though.

For the most part, you are correct. The move from the CCHA to the new conference certainly is not going to help the Ohio State hockey team because you are exchanging some lesser teams for some big-time programs. However, the only Big 10 team that is not a member of the CCHA and has made the playoffs this year was Minnesota. From the CCHA; Michigan, Michigan State, Northern Michigan, Miami(Fredo):) and Ferris State have made the playoffs this year.

The winners of the 5 hockey leagues get automatic bids into the tournament and then the NCAA uses a power ranking to fill out the 16 team field.

This year the CCHA was pretty powerful so maybe a move to a new conference will help.
