RE: TJBlog: Looking at the damn corners

the big question will be, does this temper expectations for the mythical wins that rr needs to keep his job? anything above 7 wins this yr would be one of the best coaching jobs in quite sometime IMO.

Soooooo, many of them have been talking about what a "bang up job" DickRod has been doing recruiting (he's pulled in 3 straight top-20 classes per the services) and a 7 win season in his 3rd year would be one of the "best coaching jobs in quite sometime". God, I hope to God they never fire that guy. You know, we all said this hire was going to be at best a lateral move, at worst an absolute disaster, but I never imagined that in the 3rd year of his tenure they'd be hoping to "only" lose 5 games. :slappy:

...and this is a fine sample of the gbw football knowledge:

Not all that worried.......

If you look at our corner play the last 2 years, can it really get much worse than that?

I am constantly reminded of Boo Boo getting beat by 10 yards by ever play against ND, the receiver dropping the ball and then Boo Boo showboating.

How about Floyd catching everything over the top of D Warren.

Corner is one spot on the D where a true frosh can come in and make a difference, mainly because you can stick him out there, put a safety over the top and be fine. As long as you keep everything in front of you and make the tackle it is fine!

The D does lose a leader out there.....that makes the Moundros switch even that much more important this year!

Yeah, this guy thinks it'll all be okay because their frosh corners can just keep everything in front of them because they can protect them with a safety over the top. Um, clearly he hasn't watched a minute of scUM football the past couple of seasons as their safeties have been roasted over the top on a regular basis. On top of that, their safeties this year are two RS-Fr newbies who nobody has a clue how they'll play and the lone returning starter in this gaggle fuck is Kovacs who, bless his heart, was an absolute liability in pass pro last year. I'm seeing a lot of people saying that Woolfolk isn't that great, and his loss won't result in a major impact in the W-L column, but what they're failing to realize is that it's not how good he was (he's decent, nothing special), it's the fact that his loss forces them to rely on totally unproven freshmen and walk-ons which is an even bigger recipe for disaster than they had with Wollfolk back there. This is a HUGE loss with bigger implications that just one single player. They better hope to God that rut-roh and the rest of the folks replacing Graham can get good pressure on the qb, because if they are giving anybody 4-5 seconds back there, they'll eat that secondary alive. There are also several threads asking for the possibility of some of their offensive players moving over to help at corner because, you know, that would be a big help. I always thought things would be pretty even between them and UCONN & ND, but now I really think they'll be hard pressed to win either of those games. If they start 0-2, it's all over for DickRod.

...and of course it's [strike]Ty Willin[/strike] Lloyd's fault:

Sick to my stomach.

Thanks UofM Admissions, especially for Witty. Thanks Lloyd, for putting all of your eggs in a very small basket. Thanks Turner, for turning your back on this team.

Hey, this is why so many of us raised red flags when we kept taking 1 or 0 CBs in a recruiting class. Lloyd didn't care, because he had his guys and couldn't care less about the future coach, since it was clear it wasn't going to be his guy.

What a kick in the teeth. Damn, seriously, sick to my stomach. We're F'd.

What an ignorant, stupid fanbase. for the most part (for you wolverinemike)

Corners (and safeties) in Michigan recruiting classes under Carr, per Scout:

2008: 1 CB (5* Cissoko), 3 S
2007: 2 CB (5* Warren, 3* Woolfolk), 3 S
2006: 1 CB (4* Brown), 1 S
2005: 3 CB (3* Richards, 4* Harrison, 3* Sears), 0 S
2004: 1 CB (3* Stewart), 2 S
2003: 1 CB (4* Hall), 2 S
2002: 4 CB (4* Cooper, 4* McCoy, 3* Barringer, 3* Hood), 0 S

While Michigan didn't have a 0-corner class, after taking four corners in 2002 they did have four of the next six classes with only one corner. They did have two classes (2002 and 2005) where they didn't take a single safety.

Yeah, I think pretty much everybody would agree that Carr's recruiting got a little iffy in some areas towards the end, but to place all the blame on him shows just how fucking retarded these people are. Maybe DickRod should have went after a few more actual blue-chip corners as opposed to a bunch of projects/sleeper/borderline kids and an alleged felon who had to go to a 3rd party school to make the grades to even be considered by a school like scUM. I also find it hilarious that they continue to blame admissions for the lack of depth for not letting in Witty (who as another project anyway) and le le lu it. He's not even at Louisville yet and I'm pretty sure their admissions standards are about on par with DeVry for fuck's sake.

looking at the picture of Forcier without wangs, the thought occurred to me, taking the wings off of the famed Michigan helmet is clearly all part of Rodriguez's genius plan to turn Michigan's football program into West Virginia

next thing you know the players that haven't earned wings will have WV on the sides of their helmets, which of course is to remind them to Workout Valiantly

a sign that things go from bad to worse, a NEW Justin Boren bashing thread shows up. Which happened last night. I've moved on from that situation and does piss me off when people drag it back out to rehash it. Talk about a dead horse (and i'm not talking about our secondary.)

Horrible news about T-Wolf, but it happened so UM must move on and persevere. I am sitting here pondering who we should be really afraid of in the Big Ten now that we are working with one shoddy corner and a high 4 star high school kid. I look around and I see at the top of the Big Ten there are smash mouth teams, not finesse/ pro-style teams that want to go one on one with their receiver against your corner.

Iowa- Wants to Run, then thrown to wide open tight ends.
Wisc- Pounds the Ground, throw to tight end.
OSU- Scare you with Pryor, thrown wobbly pass 40 yards down middle of field- have receiver run under the ball.
PSU-Run Royster to Record- QB's have no experience.
Indiana- Good trio of WRs, but seems like they like to run from pistol more often than not. Can Chappel get enough time to throw?
ND-Floyd is really scary, but who knows if Crist will be able to get up after Martin eats his heart.
Purdue- Pass spread attack, breaking in New QB

I am pretty upset with losing T-Wolf, but on the bright side I don't see elite WR/QB combo talent that we should be so super scared about. Last year we were torched by very talented Big Ten tight ends. Improved LB play should help there.

Stop the run, then help those cover guys by zone blitzing on the 3rd and longs. Offense can really help out by getting up early, closing out games, and munching on that clock.

this secondary is going to make average QBs look like Peyton Manning.....
