The honeymoon is just about over for Tate. Many um threads lately passing along ann arbor chatter about tate not taking workouts and preparation seriously (that was one of his problems last fall, and it extended throughout winter/spring)... which puts him even further behind the eight ball given magee's preference for a runner (which is not tate's strong suit, both reading the defense and his running ability when a slow nd defense is not opposite him) and the fact that he has hardly improved at all over the last ten months. Of course, that id the downside to offering a fragile qb who has been professionally trained for a decade, there might not be that much upside left.
Of course some apologists pop up and point to the nd game, msu win (which was a pretty ugly game overall for tate), iowa (also not good or he wouldve been leading that last drive).... But more and more um fans seem to be "cooling on" tate.
