my previous Dorsey article and summed it up nicely:
Unless something has changed, this is purely about academics
Probably right. I tend to have a bit more Oliver Stone in me than he does, so I do think some of the issues that have surrounded the program in the past 2 years come into play, but only to the extent that it mean RichRod wouldn?t be able to do something even Carr probably would have had a hard time doing in the first place.
Carr would have probably had a snowball?s chance in hell. RichRod had a snowflake?s chance.
After all the anger subsides, this much becomes clear to me:
There was a communications failure. His ACT score seems to be high enough (18), so it probably is a grades issue.
What Dorsey and his camp see as a 2.5 I?m guessing Admissions does not.
Not quite sure exactly what/how, but whatever was being relayed between Dorsey, Admissions, and the Coaching Staff was not the same message. Not on the same page, or not even in the same book.
The ultimately end effect on recruiting is this: Michigan has a bit higher standards than the NCAA minimum, and you better believe this is going to be negative recruiting fodder for Dantonio, the SEC, etc. Hopefully Dorsey gets a chance somewhere else.
I will add some fuel to the Rivals-Scout debates, which are endless and pointless: Rivals gets credit for getting this one right a while ago. Rivals was adamant that Dorsey was simply not going to gain admission to Michigan while Scout took a much more wait and see approach. Take it for what it?s worth, each site has its share of hits and misses (as do I).
