A couple of posters not building bomb shelters or hiding in the bushes from imaginary black helicopters...

Thanks for posting those...good stuff from both.

It is hard to stay grounded when you are a passionate fan and your team is struggling. Kudos to both of those cats for keeping their heads together in the midst of the chaos.

Being that I'm a Buckeye fan, I rather enjoy the misery that is the state of the Michigan program at the moment, I'm not gonna sugar coat that reality. But, that said, Ohio State - Michigan wasn't built on one of the programs being in disarray, it was built on epic programs being epic.
Actually, it was - that's how Michigan built up a 19-3-2 advantage in the early days of the rivalry. A little disarray in Ann Arbor is just a bit of delayed karma.

Brian at MGoBlog linked to my previous Dorsey article and summed it up nicely:
Unless something has changed, this is purely about academics
Probably right. I tend to have a bit more Oliver Stone in me than he does, so I do think some of the issues that have surrounded the program in the past 2 years come into play, but only to the extent that it mean RichRod wouldn?t be able to do something even Carr probably would have had a hard time doing in the first place.

Carr would have probably had a snowball?s chance in hell. RichRod had a snowflake?s chance.

After all the anger subsides, this much becomes clear to me: There was a communications failure. His ACT score seems to be high enough (18), so it probably is a grades issue. What Dorsey and his camp see as a 2.5 I?m guessing Admissions does not.
Not quite sure exactly what/how, but whatever was being relayed between Dorsey, Admissions, and the Coaching Staff was not the same message. Not on the same page, or not even in the same book.

The ultimately end effect on recruiting is this: Michigan has a bit higher standards than the NCAA minimum, and you better believe this is going to be negative recruiting fodder for Dantonio, the SEC, etc. Hopefully Dorsey gets a chance somewhere else.
I will add some fuel to the Rivals-Scout debates, which are endless and pointless: Rivals gets credit for getting this one right a while ago. Rivals was adamant that Dorsey was simply not going to gain admission to Michigan while Scout took a much more wait and see approach. Take it for what it?s worth, each site has its share of hits and misses (as do I).
Imagine that. Good work on the whole witchhunt though, I'm sure that a week of harassing the admissions office will really help RR's future at Michigan.

Which is surreal, because 10 years ago a 25 would have been at or above average at OSU. Has it been watered down, or has America's youth gotten less stupid and lazy?

OSU has raised their standards for admission. I got in with a 27. I would probably be borderline nowadays.

every year at commencement they talk about how it is the best class to ever go through Ohio State, and they aren't blowing smoke

IMO kids today are just good at taking multiple choice, standardized tests. They have to take so many nowadays, it's become an acquired skill. I got a 32 seven years ago, which is higher than my actual intellect would probably indicate, but I am one hell of a MC test taker.

I tutored for the ACT professionally for a few years, so I really don't have a good handle on how hard it is for most people (I think it's incredibly easy). I'm just glad that scores are coming up. Now if standards can come up across the board in parallel, we'll have something with which to work.
