"This is a decision that is owned by the admissions department, our admissions office," Brandon said. "It's always been owned by the admissions office. It is not unusual for a letter of intent to be signed with a prospective student-athlete where there's far more that needs to be done for the student-athlete to be admitted. It involves course work, it involves test scores, and a variety of criteria some of which is fact-based and where and how they went about improving their test scores."

Allow me to offer this David Brandon quote from the Detroit News article, regarding the decision-making process that admissions goes through for every student-athlete:
"It involves course work, it involves test scores, and a variety of criteria some of which is fact-based and where and how they went about improving their test scores."
Interesting that he would make a point of mentioning this last criterion, given that I'm sure it's not something that admissions is compelled to look closely at all too often. Do you not think he might possibly be dropping a subtle little hint here about this particular situation? Man oh man, if there are any reasonable questions at all surrounding the legitimacy of Demar's test scores, or the rigor/legitimacy of any classes he took at his normal high school or this alternative charter school thingie to raise his grades, he shouldn't be let anywhere near Michigan for the sake of the institution as a whole.
This would also explain the perception out there that Demar met the criteria put out for him by admissions in February, and still is not being let in even though he "met" them... obviously, if he did not achieve them honestly, all bets are off. And it would make sense that his family would fail to mention this little detail to the media... it would be very logical for them to state that he has an 18 ACT and a 2.5 GPA when those numbers are recognized "facts" right now, but conveniently neglect to add that the validity of these numbers may be in question.
Look, I'm not going to pretend that I know that any of this is true (so don't go accusing me of dragging Dorsey though the mud), but it's a very plausible scenario given the actual information we have... at least as much so as the David-Brandon-is-an-evil-politican scenario, if not more so. I'm just sickened by the witch-hunt, herd mentality that this board is displaying right now.

1) It's disappointing that we'll never see Demar Dorsey in a Michigan uniform. When you rewind to February and realize Michigan got NONE of those three DB's, that's awful. My one criticism of Michigan here: Demar said he was told if he got his grades up he would be fine. If that's true, he should've NEVER been told that. How could you not anticipate that a kid with multiple arrests would bring about an admissions process that was about much more than just GPA? Even if part of this was created by public criticism following NSD, how was THAT not anticipated? I feel bad for the kid because he clearly feels misled that everything would be fine when that was never really the clear-cut case.
2) Let's be honest here: Demar's grades have NOTHING to do with why he didn't get in. I'm sorry, I'm ALL for kids getting second chances. However, no one is going to plow over me with the idea that Michigan needs to be the place for a kid who's been involved in multiple robberies including at least one in which there was a deadly weapon involved for him to get it.
3) As has been stated on this board, the very idea that Demar doesn't get into Michigan but could go elsewhere is the very idea so many of you take so much pride in with other kids. I thought Michigan fans were proud of the academic history and the high bar necessary to be part of that tradition? I've seen very little of that on this board. I understand Michigan fans want the Wolverines to win, but I don't think that comes at the cost of sacrificing core values.
4) This is NOT the end of the world. Would Demar have made an immediate impact? Maybe. Would he have also had only three weeks to prepare for UConn? Yes. This instant impact idea and the catastrophic impact on THIS season are completely overstated. If you think Michigan isn't winning this year today, you didn't think they were winning this year a month ago.
5) For all of us Rodriguez fans, I think it needs to be acknowledged that Demar Dorsey could've been THE straw that broke RR's back had he repeated one of his prior mistakes in Ann Arbor. It's not fair in any way to compare him to Feagin, but if Rich had signed a kid who was attempting to traffic cocaine to Ann Arbor and then brought in a kid with robberies in his past only to have it happen again? Come on. That would've been the Apocalypse. I hope Dorsey has learned his lessons and never repeats those mistakes, but what if he did. It's very possible we look back on this and see Rich was protected from himself on this one.
6) Future impact on Florida recruiting: From everything I've read here, Denard could be Mayor of Florida kids 18-22. Add a handful of Florida kids this year and those kids will continue to have Florida kids to speak with and gauge the Michigan experience. If Dee and others can't see they're situation is far different than Dorsey's, that's unfortunate. As Dorsey's dad said, Demar's past is coming back to haunt him. THAT'S LIFE. I don't see how Dorsey's situation would effect the actual experience of any Florida kid who's fully qualified and hasn't put himself in very questionable circumstances.
7) Remember Cullen Christian? I swear this is the most hyped and then forgotten recruit I can ever remember. Once rated one of the top 6 CB's in the country, there is like ZERO talk here about what he could do immediately. Remember this kid's swagger? Remember when he said he didn't want to go to Pitt because he looked at their CB's and wasn't impressed? I put up a post about how I thought that was a little presumptuous and a few of you purchased guns and started looking up my address. Instead of crying in my Cheerios today, I'd like to look forward to the impact that Avery and Christian might have early.
8) The hidden bonus: +1 scholarship in the class of 2011. This began as a class that could be as small as 15. It's grew one today, and could grow with unforeseen attrition ahead. This COULD be a good thing. If Michigan was to take a step forward in 2010 on the field as many of us expect, I don't see how Rich couldn't gain access to some kids that just weren't available to a 5-7 coach in January, 2010. We keep talking about this "wait and see approach" that so many kids are taking with Michigan. Well, let's "wait and see" if Demar isn't replaced by someone just as special but at less of a risk in 2011.
9) USC has learned it's fate today. It will be announced tomorrow. This will be a GOOD thing for Michigan. They're violations are far more serious than Michigan's, and it will be a good thing to offer the nation a little perspective on violations and penalties. I spent some time talking USC football with a former Trojan baseball player yesterday and the inside feeling has shifted in LA from no worries to worried. We'll find out soon enough.
10) Finally, we're now down under three months to kickoff. This offseason of discontent will be over soon and we will find out where this is headed. Thank God, because this site is like a funeral right now. I used to get excited to log on to see what kid was interested in Michigan. No more. All I read here is how Michigan will compete again in 2398, Fire everyone, blah-blah-blah. Last time I checked Michigan has had the Top 20 recruiting classes through all of this turnover. When I ask myself, "Does Illinois, Purdue, Notre Dame, UConn, etc. have BETTER talent than us," the answer is a resounding NO. They don't. At least I don't think so. So when it comes down to it, I still believe Michigan should win these games. I felt that way during 2-3 losses last year too, but this is Year 3. I expect something different in those 50/50 games this year. I hope a few of you read back #10 here because there is a needed dose of reality here. And if it doesn't go that way, deal with it then.

I can say with great pride that very very few times has a Buckeye made an arse out of himself in an interview...

It seems as if he really has changed, but at the same time im not going to sit here and whine like the rest of this fan base because he is not getting in. Like his Dad said, his past decisions are coming back too haunt him.
Plus he might get to win a few football games.TheIronColonel;1714250; said:Yeah, ain't that a bitch? It sucks, but everyone has done shit they regret that has limited their future options. The only thing you can do is try to learn from your mistakes and move on.
He'll land somewhere, and if he's really made changes in his life then this will only make him stronger as a person.
