2010 TSUN News offseason (football)

The scUM secondary; How do you screw up your top recruit(Turner), who you needed badly, that he wants out? Good organization in the secondary can help with some athletic deficiencies, but If guys can't run and turn they will get beat.............a lot.

Ran into some older Michigan fans, they follow the company line about RR being a "good" coach. But I noticed their lack of conviction when they said that and they kind of were embarrassed. :shake:
I almost felt bad for them, but then I remember the Cooper years when they were saying The Game and The Rivalry were dead and MSU was their big rival. I don't think we beat them bad enough last year. But I know Tress would never run up the score. He thinks too much of The Game.

1. Part of the frustration of the Cooper years was that he lost when he had talent equal to or better than the Wolverines.

2. Part of the magic of the Tressel years is that he won even though Michigan often had equal or better talent.

3. As late as 2007 the Michigan talent was roughly equal or better.

3. That being said, I don't think Tressel let's any Michigan team stay within a score of tying or winning a game if he feels like his team can put the game away. Running the score up is one thing, winning easily another and being able to win easily is yet another.

Extra points

After the first practice, Rodriguez said he thought the team overall is in good shape.
"Quite a few guys are in very good shape, I think there's a handful of guys that are OK shape and a small handful of guys that aren't ready to play Division I football," he said.

Not even Division I-AA football?

I guess the problem is that Kovacs is a walk-on that is obviously better than the 3-4-5* recurits Michigan spent a scholarship on. That tells me that the guys in your secondary are not getting better. If I am a young stud I would be drooling at the chance to steal that open slot...unfortunately for you guys nobody is stepping up. Kovacs is a great story but the underlying problem is either recruiting/development or both. This is glaringly obvious especially when watching Michigans team last year and in the spring game.

Does he still not have a scholarship? They must really need the money because it's not like they don't have any to spare.

same with Kovacs. I know he's a walkon and UM takes heat because they are forced to play him in a secondary lacking a lot of talent, but he plays balls out with a lot of emotion on every play. He's one of those guys where you say "I wish I had a team of Kovac hearts."

Too bad heart can't help you get a little footspeed and/or the ability to take a good angle.

Carr explains why he coached one year longer than he intended...

....Ryan Mallet.

I caught the tail end of an hour long interview with Carr on the "Huge show" on WTKA.
Asked why he left, Carr explained that he knew he was done after the loss to OSU in 06 (#1 vs #2) followed by the loss to USC in the Rose Bowl.
He decided to stay one more year because of Mallet.
Mallet was the #1 QB in the country and was going to enroll in Jan at UM. Carr wanted to ensure that he left the program in good shape. I'm assuming he was afraid Mallet would change his verbal if he retired.
So Carr is openly admitting to withholding information about his retirement to trick an 18-year old into making a misinformed life decision!?!?!? I'm sure it happens all the time, but who admits to it?
