CFN 2010 UCONN Preview

I wonder how UCONN's offseason has gone..and how they looked after spring camp. Is there anyone here who can provide an update on their squad?

I think UM's season hinges on that game..and it is far from a gimmie.

Lose..and they spiral toward another last place B10 finish..win..and they may battle enough to become bowl eligible.

I wouldn't bet on UM to beat the Huskies..that UCONN squad may not have tons of talent..but they show tons of heart and effort..and relentless can win ball games. Esp. if the other team starts to play tenative.

That is going to be a dandy.

Key game: Sept. 4 at Michigan. Nope, it won?t have any bearing on the Big East race, but it does represent another huge opportunity for Connecticut to spread its progress beyond the Northeast. Just like last November?s trip to South Bend, a visit to the Big House affords the Huskies a chance to make a loud statement and use a Midwest powerhouse as a launching point to bigger and better things.

Powerhouse? :slappy:

Like it or not, this is the kind of BS that the mediocre feed themselves when it comes to facing a big name team.

We saw it back in the 80s when the program went in the tank. Indiana had their best 2 teams of the 20th century, and it took Ohio State having their 2 worst teams of the century (or at least of my lifetime) for them to be better (much better) than OSU in those years. I was there for Dark Day I, and their fans were absolutely delirious; and who could blame them.

What is less understandable was the reaction that opposing fans had to beating Ohio State the next year (John Cooper's first). In the year that got Earle fired, the stunner against Indiana was only the first indication that OSU sucked that year, so it was natural for their fans to think they'd accomplished something of note. But in the 4-6-1 debacle, everyone knew that Ohio State was pure garbage, but everyone crowed "we beat Ohio State".

The only way I could wrap my mind around what I saw that year is by applying what Dale Carnegie called the natural human desire to feel important and to feel a sense of accomplishment. People will tell themselves all sorts of lies to make themselves feel important. Foolish lies, silly lies... They will even tell themselves that TSUN is still a powerhouse.

When people are so eager to feed on and believe such tripe; what pseudo-journalist wouldn't want to feed it to them?

Gotta reach for every excuse they can. This is rather ominous for the upcoming season if beav is crafting an out before summer camp has even begun. It's a conspiracy!

:slappy: yea

for a fan base that claims they are "confident" about this season, they are throwing out a lot of pre-made excuses and outs for the event (the likely event) that they flop again

its going to be hilarious when the rich rod supporters and praisers eventually turn against him

That's surprising as Scout lists him with an offer from Stanford. Although, we are all too well aware of what Scout lists as offers and who really has an offer from that school.

Not just Stanford, but also Duke, Wake and Syracuse

those are some pretty strong academic institutions. something is a miss if he didnt qualify academically

In another dramatic GBW reversal much like the admissions harrassment (a weeks worth of this culture fostered and unchecked, suddenly halted), now GBW is reporting that folks didn't have the whole story on why Jones was denied:

Scout Free

**** Conelius had a 2.53-2.55 GPA (not 3.7) and scored a 790 on the ACT. He needed an 810 to qualify. Plans to attend UM a semester late after improving his grades.

So after yet another massive witch hunt about evil UM, it turns out that they turned away three kids:

**** Kinnard, who was never going to qualify and everyone mildly connected to UM or NE Ohio knew that.

**** Dorsey, who was offered with frightening academics, raised his GPA & ACT 30+% in one semester, and did so at a questionable third party school... with three robbery incidents to boot.

**** Conelius, who didn't make the grade on his SAT.

Amazing what happens when you get all of the facts :roll2:

There's also a new development at UM which will be linked once it surfaces in one of the newspaper or major media outlets.

It punches a serious hole in the all-in-for-conspiracy faction of the UM fanbase, which is accounts for about 98% of the posts made on GBW this offseason (there aren't many BigJes posters out there). To be fair, there are plenty of UM fans fed up with the excuses and BS and their irritation-driven silence distorts that total above.
