2010 TSUN arguments & shenanigans (in-season)

Good move
Outside of Michigan Stadium, the Michigan-Michigan State game presented an opportunity for old friends on opposite sides of the rivalry to get reacquainted and just say hello. This year, both sides had one more friend to greet.

Hello, Heisman.

The Heisman Trophy was on display at a tailgate just off Kipke Drive. With a giant RV as the backdrop, fans from both schools were allowed to look at, touch and take pictures with the trophy.

Doug Fox, a local car dealer with Nissan, the sponsor of the Heisman, brought the trophy to Ann Arbor. Through an informal application process, the request became a reality after three months.

After displaying the trophy in his showroom Friday, Fox got together with a friend and car-part supplier to bring the Heisman to a game-day tailgate. With Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson as the Heisman front-runner, Kashaka Fields, who was in charge of protecting the trophy, said it was fitting that the trophy was in attendance in a game that could produce his "Heisman moment."

"I think today will be a defining day," Fields said. "It's a quality team, and I think we'll see some nice things today."

Fox couldn't help but give the Spartans a hard time as the team was riding in a bus to enter the stadium.

"As the Spartan players went by, we held it up," Fox said. "Just so they could all see."

The Heisman doesn't come without protection. Fields, a friend of Fox, hovered over the trophy as two Spartans fans took a picture. Fields, who bears more than a slight resemblance to former Michigan linebacker Dhani Jones -- goatee and all -- really didn't have a choice in protecting the trophy.

"I was elected," Fields said. "I think I was the biggest guy."

Decked out in a Michigan polo shirt with and maize-and-blue beads, Fields said he didn't have a problem with fans of the in-state rival gaining access to the trophy.

"It's probably the first time they've ever seen it, they probably won't see it again, so I don't mind them taking a look," Fields said.

Mon AM TJBlog: Iowa #1 in the nation in points-allowed ... ...

Iowa: #1 in the nation in points-allowed (giving up 10.2 per game)

Week One: They gave up 7 to Oregon ... wait, make that FCS Eastern Illinois (115 out of 117 in FCS scoring)

Week Two: They gave up 7 to Oregon ... wait, make that Iowa State (69th in FBS scoring).

Week Three: They gave up 27 in their loss at Arizona (38th in FBS scoring)

Week Four: They shut out Oregon ... wait, make that Ball State (106th in FBS scoring)

Week Four: They gave up 3 to Oregon ... wait, make that Penn State (108th in FBS scoring)

Week Five: They shut out Oregon ('course when they showed up at Duck Stadium they found that the Ducks were in Corvalis, so they went white-water rafting in the Williamette River tributary that runs in front of the stadium instead)

**My IMO ... U-M should've put up 38 on MSU last weekend, leaving 3 TDs in the quiver ... so they should come roaring back and put up 38 versus Iowa.

Michigan 38, Iowa 31

**Caveat -- watch the first quarter closely, it could be important for momentum and for whether Denard relaxes or presses. My prediction is based on the "Denard relaxes premise."

So, Iowa is flawed because their defense has feasted on less talented teams, but scUM's offense gets a pass because msu only won as a result of turnovers. The "real scUM O was what you saw against all the tomato cans. You can't argue with that logic, folks. :slappy:

I like the implication that Iowa's defense can't really be that good since Arizona hung some points on them. This ignores the fact Arizona's first TD was a 3 play 8 yard drive after blocking a punt, their second TD was on an 85 yard INT return on a pass that went through Marvin McNutt's hands, and the third TD was a 100 yard kick off return. After that nightmare 16 minutes was over, Iowa held Arizona to a pair of FGs and a TD the rest of the way.

Arizona could not run the ball against the Hawkeyes (30 rushes for 63 yards). Iowa is first in scoring D, second in rushing D, and fourth in total D. Sure, they've played patsies, but so has just about everybody else. Their defensive front is really good (second in the conference behind OSU's, IMHO).

Good luck with that, D-Rob.
