2010 TSUN arguments & shenanigans (in-season)

You know, the OL did clear the way for Michigan to gain 182 yards rushing for the game, and Denard left the game early, and it was, by the way, the most rushing yardage that Michigan has accumulated against Ohio State in a game of the entire 2000's.

Put that in the trophy case with the 47 NC's I guess.

The OL scores touchdowns now? Wow, that's news to me.

Our OL is not the problem with the offense. The lack of a legitimate RB on our roster and Denard's durability are our two biggest problems. Without Denard there is no offense and he gets banged up and we have to rely on him too much to carry the ball because Michael Shaw and Vincent Smith aren't exactly scaring anybody.

There are 2 great ways to increase rushing yards:

1. be horrible at the pass and avoid passing
2. never kick on 4th down

MIchigan did both of those and both directly led to inflated rushing yards.''

Tressel called the dogs off with 12 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

Shoelaces had a few good runs until the defense knocked him out of the game. After that, your OL did squat in opening holes for running backs and didn't do a great job in giving Tater Tot much time to throw. In fact, your OL led your offense to the follow second half drives:

0 yards
18 yards
2 yards
6 yards
68 yards
-1 yards

That's 93 total yards on your six second-half drives...

which confirms that Denard was our only offensive threat. No argument here.

Just watched the 01 Citrus Bowl recording (UM vs Aub). It is truly stunning to be reminded of what size & talent Michigan used to have. Carr deserves credit for building that roster, as well as for letting things slide a bit (depth at RB, WR), but for all the celebration of RR developing Denard, this evolution to a read option offense sure killed an amazing lineage and tradition of talent.

QB Drew Henson
RB Anthony Thomas (Justin Fargas, Chris Perry,
FB BJ Askew
WR David Terrell
WR Marquise Walker
OL Steve Hutchinson
OL Jeff Backus (Tony Pape, David Baas)
TE Bennie Joppru

It was also interesting to see how many slip screens, reverses and creative things Michigan ran against Auburn, particularly while remaining a physical running & playaction team.

Carr didn't recruit great WRs down the stretch, but Toney Clemons & Darryl Stonum would be a lot more useful in these pro style attacks (Darryl would not be reduced to a kick returner for an entire season while being the most dangerous WR).

Then you flip on some recordings of The Game:

04 WRs Braylon, Breaston, Bass, Avant
05 WRs Avant, Breaston, Manningham
06 WRs Manningham, Breaston, Arrington

Despite recruiting a billion slot-dots and WRs, their WR corps does not come close to the UM lineage at the position.

Unfortunately I live in Alabama...in the burbs within an hour of Tuscaloosa. The one thing I have realized is that the majority of SEC don't know shit about College Football as a whole. All they know is SEC.

I went out to eat at a restaurant last night with my wife and kids wearing my OSU stuff WAITING FOR A TABLE...some Auburn guys says,"OSU huh"...I said damn right OSU...I asked him if the Newtons were around so they could pay for all of our meals with the hundreds of thousands they got...

Then I said:

How many Heismans you guys got? We got 7...tied for most all-time
How many recognized NC's you got? We got 7
How many Individual award winners you got? We have more than any...all-time
First round draft choices they had...we had the 2nd most...3rd most draft choices overall
We are in the top 5 in all-time wins and winning %'s

Most BCS bowls ever

107 K in our stadium!!!

Last but not least I told him when they found a tradition to come and talk shit because right now they are little sisters of the wannabe club...Then I told him to enjoy probation after they get nuked with all the stuff the FBI has on them over the Milton McGregor investigation...freakin cheaters!!!

Could have heard a pin drop!!!!

Hey they have more Easter Bunnies than we do...

Answer one simple question...WERE THEY OFFICIALLY GIVEN A NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY FOR 1901 THRU 1904...4 TROPHIES?

There is a reason the NCAA doesn't hand those trophies out every year...thats right...because they are not official because football is the only sport with no tourny to crown a champion.

My Bizzaro world believes that there are as many Santa's, Easter Bunnies, and Tooth Ferries as there are NCAA Championships in CFB...0...they don't exist.
Um, I thought you said that we have seven recognized national championships ... you know, those things that don't exist. Your bizarro world truly is bizarre.

- In 1901 the Helms Athletic Foundation recognized NCs. They chose Michigan (11-0) who outscored their opponents 550-0. Michigan has 1 title.
- In 1902 the Helms Athletic Foundation recognized NCs. They chose Michigan (11-0). Michigan has 2 titles.
- In 1903 the Helms Athletic Foundation recognized NCs. They chose Princeton (11-0), not Michigan (10-0-1). Michigan still has 2 titles.
- In 1904 the Helms Athletic Foundation recognized NCs. They chose Pennsylvania (12-0), not Michigan (10-0). Michigan still has 2 titles.
- In 1918 the Helms Athletic Foundation recongized NCs. They chose Pittsburgh (4-1), not Michigan (5-0). Michigan still has 2 titles.
- In 1923 the Helms Athletic Foundation recongized NCs. They chose Illinois (8-0), not Michigan (8-0). Michigan still has 2 titles.
- In 1933 both the Helms Athletic Foundation and the Dickinson System recongized NCs. Both chose Michigan (7-0-1). Michigan has 3 titles.
- In 1948 the AP recognized NCs. They chose Michigan (9-0). Michigan has 4 titles.
- In 1997 the AP and ESPN/USAToday Caches recognized NCs. The AP chose Michigan (12-0). The Coaches chose Nebraska (13-0). Michigan has 5 titles.

But since Buckeye fans have a bad reputation, I don't know how much this counts......with research and all.
As for you, if you're going to take the time to do the research, at least do it correctly. Go to the NCAA website ... follow the little LINK that I have given you four times now ... scroll down through the list of national championships and count them up ... if your math skills are a little weak, then I'll do the counting for you ... 1 ... 2 ... 3 ... 4 ... 5 ... 6 ... 7 ... 8 ... 9 ... there we go, boys and girls ... Michigan has nine recognized national championships, specifically:

1901: HAF, NCF
1902: HAF, NCF
1903: NCF
1904: NCF
1918: NCF
1923: NCF
1933: HAF, NCF, CFRA
1948: AP
1997: AP, FWAA, NFF

The NCAA recognizes NCF (National Championship Foundation) titles prior to 1936; they also recognize HAF (Helms Athletic Foundation) and CFRA (College Football Researchers Association) titles from the same period. That's why Michigan's NCF titles from 1903, 1904, 1918, and 1923 count as titles recognized by the NCAA. So, just add those four national championships to the five that you already found on your own, and you too will come up with a grand total of nine. Pretty simple, eh?

Now back to the regularly scheduled Michigan bashing....

Free Bucknuts - Bad Day In Ann Arbor

Posted by Bill Kurelic on Dec 29, 2010 at 09:07 am

Tuesday began with the Michigan basketball team holding high hopes heading into Big Ten play. The Wolverines entered their game against Purdue coming off a successful pre-conference slate in which Michigan went 10-2.

Then in their first Big Ten game the UM hoopsters were spanked by Purdue 80-57 in Ann Arbor yesterday.

On Tuesday night Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez sustained a big loss on the recruiting front when defensive lineman Anthony Zettel (West Branch, Mich./Ogemaw Heights) announced he had committed to Penn State over scholarship offers from Michigan, Michigan State and Iowa. Zettel made official visits to all four schools.

The 6-foot-4 and 260-pound Zettel was the top uncommitted prospect left in the state of Michigan until Tuesday night. And with the Michigan Wolverines? many needs on the defensive side of the ball, Zettel was a huge and very important target for Rich Rodriguez.

What has to make this defeat even tougher for Rodriguez to swallow is that Zettel grew up a Michigan fan.

Summing it all up, Tuesday was a day to forget for Michigan fans.
