Man, do I love Coach Tressel. Nobody I'd rather have coaching the Buckeyes. He has a great staff, too. Fine people, every one.

With that said, this recruiting season has been a huge disappointment. Not because of the recruits who are coming to Columbus, as I think they're all fine young men whom I am eager to see suit up in scarlet and gray. But the performance of our staff at securing commitments from highly recruited student-athletes ("blue chippers") was not good this year. Not blaming anyone; many things come into play when athletes commit. But the staff should be giving themselves a hard look and identifying what they need to do differently next year to avoid a repeat.

For those who didn't hear the program, both Tress and Fickell pretty much gave away the decision during the call-in show. Well in advance, they both lamented that the class only had 1 OL.

Its not fun finishing second for these top prospects, but when you are a national powerhouse like Ohio State, you are going to finish second sometimes. This just happened to be a big year for that sort of thing.

I know what everyone has been saying: this was going to be a small class, we have good guys here who can contribute, all that stuff. I know that. And in that regard, we have some very good guys here, who I think really will be excellent contributors one day. But the BIGGEST complaint people have had for years now is poor play on the OL. We finally brought in some very nice classes, but we needed to continue that trend to get real depth. As people were saying all season, the Offensive Line was our #1 need. We brought in one. Yes, he has phenomenal potential, but he's only one player. So while we did bring in some quality players, we failed to solidify our #1 need, and because of that, I don't think the staff succeeded this year.

Nice class all in all. But only one OL is not good IMO.

This class might not be done; we don't know. There could be a surprise or two, perhaps.

Assuming everything is equal:

If a parent can sit down with Lane Kiffin and/or Ed Orgeron and have a conversation about their child's future, and then sit down and have that same conversation with Jim Tressel, and then choose USC...

I hate to see Midwest kids go to other conferences, especially when the B10 gets bad mouthed so much.

That might be part of the reason why we are having problems winning recruiting battles. I don't have any issues with the class we have coming,it great, and it was discussed at great length here that the class would be a smallish one. But you have to wonder if the beating the Big 10 has taken in the latter part of the this decade, with OSU being the face of the conference, has hurt the preception on a national stage with the kids that have offer from everywhere...just throwing that out there.

Well, it's obvious that more OL would have been good and Ohio State will now be pressured to close some good ones next year.

I have a philosophy about recruits. If they don't choose Ohio State, they don't belong at Ohio State. Best of luck to them.

Ohio State doesn't have surf, southern sun, or a monopoly on tradition and good times. But, it has its own special charm and traditions, a coaching staff that is proven to help young men learn important lessons on and off the field that benefit them throughout life, and a winning tradition for putting players in the pros.

I've seen this coaching staff turn too many "three-star" players into All-Americans to buy into this "disappointing class" nonsense.

Folks, these new young Buckeyes are going to make us proud out there on the field.

Lot's of wonderful strawmen being built. Kudos.

Todays "Haul" has no impact on 2010.

2012 is where the pipeline needed to be filled.

Young OL's, which by default we will have in '12, are problematic.

Nobody has broached the other aspects is impacts.

*Lack of comp. on the OL (called the Steve Rehring codicle).
*Less physical practices, impacting the O and the D.

The 2012 spring practice should be a big 7 on 7 tourney.

I can't really give that an infraction for bashing because there is no such word. Not sure what you were aiming for, but you missed.

Otherwise, you leapt to an unwarranted, insupportable conclusion and landed squarely on my ignore list. Kudos.

I love Tress and would have no other man leading the program, but I can't exactly say getting signing day commits is one is his strengths.

Man, rough day. On to 2011...

Sums it up the best. I like a lot of the players in this class, but not being able to get even 1 of Moses/James/Henderson...that's rough...

I'm optimistic that 2011 is going to be pretty good.

The run of losing top games hurt the image of this coaching staff a lot this year. The great win in the Rose Bowl and the stunning reversal in press attitudes toward the Big Ten and Ohio State will help a lot this year.

So will a national championship.

When I was in college, Christmas stopped being fun.

I sent my folks a list, and they got me it.

So, unwrapping gifts was kind of meaningless- I knew what was there.

Today is like that, in some ways. We knew what we were getting, and were hoping for a surprise Red Ryder bb gun that didn't come.

So, while everyone else is shouting over their surprises, we're left with a solid class that we've grown attached to over the past few months. These young men are Buckeyes.

Could it have been better? Sure. Did we miss on some needs? Seems so, but time will tell.

But, like Christmas, you can only be certain of what hit the mark when you see what's being used and cherished months later.

And, so far, we've been pretty good with what Tressel and his staff have delivered us- even if we knew what it was before Christmas/NLOID.
