2010 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Rivals - Army Combine MVP makes most of trip (free)
by: Jeremy Crabtree 1/6/09

Article discusses 2010 WR Kyle Prater out of Proviso West High School in Hillside, Illinois. He's a big kid, 6'4" 200lbs, runs a 4.56, and is being compared to other WRs recently like Julio Jones and Reuben Randle (quoted by Barry Every in the writeup). He was named Most Outstanding Prospect at the combine this past weekend in San Antonio. Claiming offers from Illinois, Iowa, Purdue, Northwestern and Cincinnati. Looks like he will be a TOP player, not just at WR, in the 2010 class... from ILLINOIS.

Article also gives the offensive and defensive MVP awards. The offensive MVP went to an OL out of Indianapolis names James Hurst. 6'5" 275 lbs.

I mainly put this here because these kids are essentiallyy in our backyard. You got to believe the staff will be after these guys, especially the OL kid from Indy with no real state school other than IU, and please, it's IU and then of course Notre Dame. I'd love to see us go after both of them. If Prater is near Julio or Randle... :yow2:... they are both the REAL deal. Would love to go Posey ('08), Marlon Brown ('09), Prater ('10) in consecutive classes.

Every college coach I have spoken to would disagree with that statement but I digress...back to Boyd.

I was just going off of what Tommy Tuberville said during the Espn Under Armour game. What he said made sense to me. I am paraphrasing but he said that its the hardest to find a really great one. He said that finding a decent one is easy......He also said that a qb is the guy with the ball in his hands making all the decisions and control the game. It would seem to make sense, arent all NFL teams looking for a franchise qb, the league isnt full of Brady`s and Mannings. Go Bucks

OL is a lot harder to project...

Look back at the top QB names from a few years ago (Mustain, Stafford, Tebow, Schaeffer, Devlin, Juice, Snead, Locker).
Compare that with the OL names ... Smith was special, the next 4 were busts.

Some other strong examples:

03 - Booty, Wright, Leak, Russell, Grady, Lane (TE), Midgett, Dixon
02 - Young, Edwards, Olson, McNeal, Dickey, Vick (could go either way)

Yeah that would be smart! I went to college in Hampton, VA and there are countless players that come just from the 757 area(Michael Vick, Ron Curry, Aaron Brooks, Plaxico Burress, Percy Harvin, Lawrence Taylor, Allen Iverson, the list goes on) alone and make or have made names for themselves. Bear in mind this area is 7 cities with a combined population of less than 200,000. And the ACC, mostly UVA and VA Tech pluck out those players and keep them home annually. But these players often are very open to leaving but they get so much home love and pressure that they just stay home. We should definitely get down to the tidewater area of VA more often.
