High School 2010 State Playoffs

Some surprises in high school playoffs first round pairings - Examiner.com

It was a wild weekend in Week 10 of the high school football regular season. Teams that thought they may have missed out on the playoffs (Brecksville) and some teams that thought they were a sure bet, find themselves looking in, despite winning their last game (North Royalton). There was even a team (Strongsville) that had an undefeated team (Solon) beaten, up until the last play of regulation, in one of the most memorable plays of the season. Solon tied the game, and won the game on the first possession of overtime to cost the Mustangs a shot at the playoffs.

So, after 10 weeks of football, it comes down to 32 teams in each Division, 8 teams in each Region, for a shot at a state championship. We are going to look at the marquee region in the whole state of Ohio, which is Division I, Region 1, and it is loaded with good teams. The pairings are below, with first round games being played on the home field of the higher seed.

A pair of conference rematches in Division I highlight next weekend's first-round games in pairings officially announced by the Ohio High School Athletic Association on Sunday.

Greater Miami Conference co-champ Colerain will host Hamilton, while Greater Catholic League South co-champ La Salle will host St. Xavier next Saturday night among the 17 games featuring area teams.

Divisions II, IV and VI play on Fridays, while Divisions I, III and V play on Saturdays.

McKinley looked pretty good, but they still have some holes and health questions. Glenville will be there at the end (Final 8 at least) I expect, probably St. Ed's can make a run as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see other #3s, like LaSalle or Davidson, go deep into the playoffs either.

EDIT: Sorry, Davidson is a 2, but you get the point...I don't think the #1s are locks at all this year.

Written November 2nd, 2010 by Joe

We're going to put our weekly review of one of our recruits on hold as the playoffs begin. We'll let you know when our recruits play throughout the playoffs, and recap and preview their performance in the following weeks. If anyone takes in any of these games, feel free to leave a comment; we'd love a first hand opinion. All recruits listed have profiles either in 2011 or 2012 pages courtesy of buckeyeplanet.com

There is a nice summary of all the Divisions and which teams will play and win in the championship games from the Dispatch Playoff summary

D1 Lakewood St. Edward vs. Pickerington Central
D2 Mentor Lake Catholic vs. Cincinnati Winton Woods
D3 Steubenville vs. Cincinnati McNicholas
D4 Clinton-Massie over Akron Manchester
D5 Youngstown Ursuline over Hamilton Badin
D6 Delphos St. John's over Maria Stein Marion Local

I will go with the winners of the first three divisions but not know that much about the bottom three.

Youngstown Ursuline is the most "for sure" answer on there. They are going to destroy the rest of Division 5.

I'm the writer for the Warren G. Harding football site. Here is my "Season Summary & Region 1 Playoff Preview."

My high school, East Liverpool, rose from the dead to go 8-2 and make the D-III playoffs. The old town has hit hard times so anything positive coming out of it is a good thing. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they advance, though.

Go Potters! :)
