Isn't Bama losing something like 8-9 defensive starters??? WTF is he talking about?

That guy is a fat [censored]ing asshole.

Maybe I try to see the best intentions in people, but I think he meant that AL would love to see him stiff-arming defenders because that means he's not throwing deep bombs to open WRs. At some point, TP must develop his arm more to reach full potential.

A very positive piece from Rittenberg. Worth a read.
Rittenberg is a breath of fresh air in today's national media. He's not above criticism, but his well-rounded fair analysis is a big reason why he's risen to fame imo. I know they love him on the UM boards.

another of his blogs posted not long ago today

Did Buckeyes steal signals in Rose Bowl? - Big Ten Blog - ESPN

Ohio State was so successful at stopping Oregon?s offense in its 26-17 win over the Ducks in the Rose Bowl that, at times, it seemed as if the Buckeyes knew what was coming.

Did they?

?There were a couple times last year when we kind of felt like our signals were, maybe, compromised,?? offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich said.

He shot down the sign-stealing conspiracy wholesale:

...but I don't think it's why they won the Rose Bowl. I saw a physically superior group of defenders execute the scheme and their fundamentals against a gimmicky offense. Ohio State was extremely well prepared for the game, and Oregon ball carriers didn't have the room to run or the arm tackles that they were accustomed to in the Pac-10.

yah i agree with him and dont believe it one second...i just thought it was comical that oregon's OC would come out and say something like this now and thought it was somewhat related since we were talking about rittenberg

From the article immediately above:

"QB Kenny Guiton looks easily confused in the passing game. Way too often, he's taking off running. He also was flagged for delay of game once."

Color me unconcerned that Guiton doesn't have everything down pat yet; I wouldn't expect him to.

But I really like the fact that they are throwing delay-of-game flags in practice.

A couple of updates from today's practice...

***Ben Buchanan had the best onside kick of the day...of the three that were kicked by all three kickers. If the season started tomorrow, and the Buckeyes needed an onside kick against Marshall, it's clear that they've got bigger problems than finding somebody to onside kick.

O-Zone: Back from practice...some bits and pieces...

1. Terrelle Pryor had his best day throwing the ball in my opinion. There were no floaters. He was accurate downfield as well. He dropped in a perfect 35-yard pass down the sideline to Dane Sanzenbacher--who one-armed it--with Devon Torrence in tight coverage. The receivers to a man have said that the ball is getting to them much quicker this year. As soon as they turn for the ball, it?s there. There?s no waiting. Pryor also kept tight end Jake Stoneburner busy all afternoon. He found him in check downs, in the flats, across the middle (!!) and down the seam. In fact, the pass down the seam to Stoneburner was thrown right over Brian Rolle?s head. If the spring is any indication--and it NEVER* is--then this may be the year the tight ends see the ball. Spring Practice Notes Version 6 ? April 13

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State passed the midpoint of its 2010 spring drills with another full pads practice Tuesday on the only outdoor practice field available behind the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Three of the four available practice fields are in various stages of a $5.2 million renovation that will be completed in stages (June and early August).

It was a "two-fer" Tuesday interview day for the media. Head coach Jim Tressel opened the Big Ten spring football coaches teleconference with a 10-minute session at noon and then a trio of receivers and position coach Darrell Hazell were on the receiving end of post-practice interview questions from the assembled media. (The Wednesday, April 14 spring practice notes will include quotes and notes and comments from and about the receivers.)

And among the assembled media at practice today: the Big Ten Network's own Gerry DiNardo and Howard Griffith.

Meanwhile, Originating from Chicago The Big Ten conference call had each of the 11 head coaches on for 10 minutes. Coach Tressel led off the call, was on it for nearly 12 minutes and responded to five questions with the bulk of his time - 8:55 - devoted to comments about junior quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Here are a few of the Tuesday thoughts from the Coach:

On Spring So Far: "We've been pleased with a number of things but we still have a ways to go. There are certain holes to fill and depth to be created. We lost a good group of kids who were good leaders and who led us to a Big Ten championship. We also lost Thaddeus Gibson to the NFL."

The Team's Personality: "I think the personality of our team is still in the midst of being formed, and I don't know if you know this total answer until you are thrown out into the competition. Thus far the seven practices have been pretty solid, though, with no horrible injuries."

"A year ago this time, we were coming off a very tough game with Texas, a very good team and really, we played very well," Tressel told me. "Fast-forward a year, and we played against a very good Oregon team. I don't know if we played as well this year in our bowl game as we did a year ago in our bowl game, but we won."

Man, I love having a coach with perspective.

Somebody conjure up a youth serum so this man can coach the Buckeyes forever...

I felt the same way JT did. We got hammered in the press for another BCS loss, but that game against Texas was a masterful showing against a team that had every right to be in the NC game.
