2010 SEC Discussion and vBet

The SEC, Presented By ESPN, or ESPN, Presented By the SEC

College GameDay has done the near impossible by not going fluffy and continuing to be terrific despite adding an extra hour. Its importance and its presence as an influential force continues to grow, and in a sport where perception and hype mean everything when determining a national title and BCS slots, it really does matter what the show chooses to showcase. The problem, now that ESPN has ponied up the billion dollars to showcase the SEC, is that GameDay is quickly becoming a three-hour informercial for the conference. In the opening weekend the show did its thing from Atlanta with LSU and North Carolina squaring off. Fine. Last week, the show came from Tuscaloosa for the Penn State ? Alabama showdown. Okay. This week there isn?t a big signature game to highlight the weekend, so it would be a perfect time for the show to put the spotlight on a different part of the college football world to give fans a taste of the landscape. Iowa is playing at Arizona in a showdown of two ranked teams; Tucson would be different. Going to Michigan State for the Notre Dame showdown would be a slice. But instead, the show is going to Auburn for the game against Clemson. Another SEC school, another three hours of SEC screaming, and yet another way of hyping up the product so it can be sold along the family of networks and in the heads of the pollsters.

The criticism is cyclical. Do you remember a couple of years ago when a 2 loss Nebraska team played USC and gameday when to cover that game when there were multiple other undefeated teams playing?

They received the same criticism when they covered the ABC games and the show was (apparently) too focused on the PAC 10.

As far as I'm concerned, keep them as far away from campus as possible. The games being broadcast at prime time spots are all I'm interested in anyway - I don't care who puts on a stuffed animal head.

Only fair way to make it happen is to run College Gameday for 10 weeks. Spending 2 weeks at each of the BCS conferences. Save 2 weeks for "Wild Cards" (Chick-fil-A kick off classic, Army/Navy game, ND game....whatever).

6 BCS conferences x 2 games + 2 wildcards = 14 weeks

I know that I'm from the north, which makes me slow, but I don't follow your math.

I do not include the ACC as a premier destination for college football anything.
In direct response to the league being denied two trips by College Game Day - they'll get two more for basketball, they can have the ones alloted to the SEC.

KNOXVILLE (WRCB) - New University of Tennessee football coach
Derek Dooley is still in the early stages of rebuilding the program. This week,
part of that rebuilding included a few lessons on proper bathing techniques.

The lesson followed a small breakout of staph infections, which included
defensive tackle Minor Bowens.

"We've had a few staph infections, so we did a clinic yesterday on proper shower
technique and soap and using a rag," Dooley told reporters in Knoxville Wednesday.

"We put some new rags in. Y'all think I'm kidding, but I'm serious."

BWAHAHAHA.........No, all of those Vol stereotypes are hurtful. :slappy:

Lesson 1:

Class, repeat after me please!

I wash my face BEFORE my ass!

"I wash my face BEFORE my ass!"

Again please!

"I wash my face BEFORE my ass!"

"Coach!...if'n Bubba washed his ass, can I wash my face with his soap? Or do I's wash my ass first?"

I thought he'd get 2 games for selling his jersey, but selling it to an agent for $1000 makes it worse, so 4 games seems understandable. The dollar amounts haven't seemed to make much difference in the length of NCAA suspensions, but the involvement of an 'agent' is a hot topic right now.

The article does say that UGA is appealing.
