Game Thread 2010 Rose Bowl: Ohio State 26 Oregon 17 (Final, 1/01/2010)

Why is everyone so convinced that we can't hold them to under 20 points? We held Texas to around 20 points last year. Looking on ESPN's main site, we have yet to give up 30 all season. Okay, so maybe we haven't faced an offense as good as Oregon's but who gives a fuck. They may score 30 of more but why are some of your pussies so convinced they will? I really wouldn't be surprised if we held them to about 17-21 range. Against the ever-so-stingy UCLA defense, Oregon was able to scorch the score board with 24 points. Not saying that's proof we will stop them, I'm just tired of reading through this thread and seeing a bunch of pussies from our own school talking about some sort of shoot out. Give me a fucking break, anyone that knows are coach knows this will not be a shoot out. This will be played like any other game we play. We are going to come out, punch people in the mouth and shit on their uniforms. 2010 can't get here soon enough. So sick of waiting and listening to this garbage.

The Keys to this Game

The keys to this game is not the Buckeye defense vs the Oregon offense. They will both have their moments. What it will come down to is how explosive and consistent the Ohio State offense is against the Ducks defense. In addition it will be the special teams role in this game. Whoever has a game changing performance in this capacity will have a strong edge.

Questions:

Can Ohio State put together and execute a passing and running attack with a few quick change plays?

Can Ohio State stop the nifty qb and the return of their best running back?

Can Ohio State's place kicker and whole kicking game be an edge or a detriment?

Will the Ducks horribly ugly bowl game uniforms blind those in attendance in the Rose Bowl and at home?

Ohio State 20-17.

Go Bucks!:osu:

The team that did score the most points on us, 27, was Navy, who is a strong rushing team. Granted, it was the triple option and our first game of the season. Much has changed since then. BUT, Oregon's strength is running the ball. If we can't stop their running game, I see them putting up 30+ points on us. If we do stop their running game, we can definitely keep them to the 17-20 point range. JMO.

I'd like to bring up the fact that we held John Clay to less than 60 yards rushing.

You'd like to bring up that fact, but it was mentioned 4 posts earlier. :wink2:

I watched the Oregon-ASU game today. Oregon's offense was rolling early, they got to 31 points in the middle of the second quarter. They ended up with 44. One interesting thing was that they hardly ran the clock at all when they had a 17-point lead in the 4th quarter. They're up 38-21 with about 10 minutes left, and they kept hiking the ball with between 15 and 25 seconds on the play clock, when the game clock was running. They seemed to be more concerned about staying in their normal tempo than in shortening the game. Anti-Tresselball.

They did have some ball security issues. Masoli dropped a bad snap that bounced back up to him, and LaMichael James fumbled when he was popped by a linebacker after a short gain (a teammate fell on the ball).

I noticed the zone read play where they leave the DT unblocked, rather than the DE, on two occasions. Both times Masoli faked out the DT and then got by him for big yards. That's something I'm glad there's extra preparation time for. I'm sure Oregon would prefer to isolate Larimore or Denlinger on this play, as opposed to Worthington, Simon or Heyward. Look for them to run that play once they identify a personnel grouping and a boundary/field alignment that lets them predict which DT they'll be leaving unblocked.

I wonder if it's a prerequisite for media members to just say "speed" if they don't know what they're talking about.

Although this is the same person (Dienhart) that had Rich Rodriguez the No. 2 coach in the Big Ten, prior to the season.

I didn't realize Ohio State was that slow that it would require capital letters.

Funny thing is I guarantee Ohio State has faster players than Oregon and almost any other team in the country. SPEED is not the Buckeye's problem by any means.

lol Right.

What always kills me is to hear a commentator talk about a school's recruiting efforts and say something to the effect, "They scout down there for their speed." lol

It's ridiculous. To hear some talk the only kids in the country capable of running a 4.4/40 or better are either in the southeast or California.

Haven't you heard? There is a magical element below the Mason-Dixon line that gives babies an extra leg muscle in the womb. Without this muscle a 4.4 is unattainable.
