2010 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

Anderson over Hicks!?!? Ware moving all the way up to #19 and a 5* cause he was the leading rusher of the game!?!? I've never followed it before but is this a trend with Rivals to base their entire 100 on how someone did in one game?

It seems like they do this every year. We have benefited from this trend in the past, specifically in Mike Adams' case. He went in a 4*, and emerged a 5* after dominating everybody in the practices, and performing well in the game. Eventhough we don't have his commitment, some speculated that Christian Bryant would earn a fifth star after shutting down receivers in practice this year. I actually like to see their re-evaluations of classes/recruits 3-4 years into their college careers because you get a more accurate rating based on performance and living up to the hype, a sort of reality check on recruit rankings if you will.

I guess I don't understand how that benefits OSU. What does it matter what Rivals thinks of him? It really doesn't make him a better player.

It's not based on one game, it's what he showed all week in practices. Ware is a very highly thought of RB, a big physical runner with good strength who can still maintain extremely quick feet. His lower body control with his strength is a nasty combination, and he was the most consistent RB all week in San Antonio. Perfect fit for LSU's system, and it's recognition well deserved in Ware's case.

You have to remember, these new rankings are influenced by the whole week....when you finally get to see the kids play against top tier talent. There is no hiding in these practices, it's not like playing weak HS competition. It can be a very revealing week and you see which kids can really shine (Powell, Henderson and Floyd come to mind).

* And I like seeing them put Myers ahead of Hendrix. Real under the radar QB, although Latwan made him look silly.

I've noticed the Tharinger lists are usually pretty darn good. Sure they rank guys like Pryor and Henderson too low, but overall they assemble a good list.

ThaRinger rankings are a compilation of about 16 -18 different lists (mostly from non-featured guys working for the big 3 recruiting services). They don't use the Scout 300, Rivals 250, & ESPN 150 which (IMO) tend to get bent to the will of a few (Luginbill, Farrell, Kennedy, etc.).

Rivals is in love with Anderson because of his combine play. Nevermind that 7 on 7s are built for defensive backs to impress.
