2010 polls - Pre-season and regular

Outback bowling looks like a real possibility this year.

As much as it would be a shame for a 1 loss Buckeye team to not get into either the Rose Bowl or National Championship, I'd be happy with OSU beating LSU, Auburn, or Bama in the Outback Bowl this year. If everything goes as expected, tOSU would probably NOT be favored against Auburn or Bama.

So lets say MSU, Wisky, and OSU win out. MSU would be going to the Rose most likely. Bowls select at large between OSU and Wisky with both of us prolly in the top 8. Who do the bowls pick.....do they go with the Flash of TP and the high powered Buckeyes offense...or the boredom (not my opinion) of Wisky handing it off.

I think ifwe win out, we are in a BCS game. TCU or Utah have to lose since they play eachother. One of them is out so we will move up a spot. No way Missouri wins out. They still have Nebraska looming. Alabama could easily lose another game with LSU, Auburn and the SEC title game (if they win those 2 games).

Hopefully Iowa takes care of sparty this weekend.

Ohio State is still the most hated team in the United States.

Why, do you ask?

Well when team A beats team B, there is the pro-forma whining about the polls if team B is ahead of team A when the next polls come out. Rarely if ever do the polls adjust the FOLLOWING week, but that's exactly what happened.

Given the buckeye's propensity for leaving points on the field when not playing MAC or teams from Indiana, I'd be hard pressed to use the phrase "high powered Buckeyes offense."

Irrelevant to the question of whether a one-loss OSU team gets picked over a one-loss UW team.

The Buckeyes are one of only 6 FBS teams that are averaging 40+ points per game.

This is the best offense OSU has had in 10+ years....

However, my point is that perception of the bowls will be the "flash" of TP vs. "boring" Wisky handoffs.

Who will get better TV ratings? Both Wisky and OSU will sell out the stadium, that is irrelevant.

OK, how many points did you see disappear in the Red Zone against Miami? Wisconsin? Hell, even Marshall? When you still manage field goals (and yes, a team that only scores field goals can win a game) 90% of the time and when you roll big numbers on Marshall, EMU, Indiana and Purdue your overall average is going up.

Hey, I was a speech and theatre major and even I can of that kind of math.

According to the NCAA site Ohio State has had 44 Red Zone drives. They have scored on 40 of them, with 30 going for TD (good for 8th best in the nation). Of those 44 opportunities, the Buckeyes have scored 241 points - or 5.48 per RZ appearance.

To put that number in perspective, Ohio State is 15th in the nation for average number of points per red zone appearance. Penn State, conversely, is 117th - averaging just 3.64 points per red zone visit. Nebraska is 61st at 4.88. Southern Cal is first at 6.04, for what it's worth

Now, I do agree with you that games where Ohio State is first and G and fails to punch it in are frustrating as hell. But, the numbers aren't supporting your hyperbole here. (FG's 90% of the time)

Well, there you go again, using statistics and facts to argue...

yeah, and it's my pessimistic side getting the best of me, but I saw 12 points melt away in what could have been a total blowout of Miami -- 12 points that would have turned the kickoff and punt return into minor blips on the radar screen --

and I watched as potential breaks turned into nothing -- or field goals -- in the Wisconsin game.

Maybe the red zone isn't where you want to be. Maybe teams do better from the 30 or 40, or maybe you're right and I'm delusional with my expectations.

It just feels like other teams do more with red zone plays than this year's Buckeyes, but that may well be a product of being a fan - you never get all that you want. Thanks for the perspective.
