2010 Heisman Trophy Discussion

Are you certain you didn't mean Ryan Mallett of Arkansas?

Big Quarterback playing for a team that wears red in the deep south who has a shot at the heisman? might be a high pick in the draft? last name starts with M?

Why the BSU love?

I honestly believe the BSU's and TCU's of the college football world deserve the same thing everyone else does. Both team proved themselves last year, and even took on more challenging teams. BSU has been snubbed alot recently. Yes they are getting more respect, but still not enough to make the NC game. Last year, at least for me, was the straw that broke the camel's back with the BCS putting BSU against TCU in the bowl. It was basically a cop-out by the BCS, because they did not want to see another mid-major beat a top team.

I also thought Gerhart (sp?) should of won the Heisman last year. He had some of the best numbers and meant the most to his team compared to everyone else.

Polite disagreement here - I thought Big Suh meant more to his team than Gerhart.

I was also hoping Suh would win the Heisman, he's awesome.

I don't want to turn this into a whole mid-majors vs. the power conferences thread, but let me just take issue with your claim that, "Both teams proved themselves last year, and even took on more challenging teams." How, may I ask, did they prove themselves last year? By beating up week-in and week-out on teams like Miami of Ohio, Bowling Green, UC Davis, San Jose St., Louisiana Tech, Utah State, etc.? They played exactly one good, power conference team all year. So please don't try to tell me that they "deserved to be there," because they didn't do anything remotely close to what a power conference team does week-in and week-out.

Which ran a finesse read-option attack and had a very young, undersized defense.

That win reminds me of the ND wins Sparty used to pull off in September right before completely imploding in big ten play.

So if BSU beats VT early in the season this year, then still goes undefeated you think they should not have a shot at the NC game? Even though BSU proves time in and time out that they can beat the big name teams out there.

Sure they play some cupcakes, but what teams don't? BSU also has Oregon St and Fresno St on the schedule this coming year. Both teams are not amazing, but they are not pushovers either.

If Boise St can have another amazing season and go undefeated (and hopefully finally get into the NC game) then Kellen Moore should win it hands down.

You can't be serious. Wake me when BSU joins an actual conference...

Look - I'm no stranger to playing the strong conference card (SEC! SEC! SEC!...etc) but if they start the year in the Top 5, beat VT, win all their games and conference and do so in impressive fashion, they should probably get a shot.

But they obviously don't jump an unbeaten Big 10, SEC or Big 12 team.

Except for that one time...

And you should know about that one time Woof.

When Boise went between the hedges, the Bulldogs stomped a hole in their guts and walked it dry.

Competing against a team known for not showing up in Bowl games (Oklahoma) is one thing. Making it through a full season in a decent conference is quite another.

Yeah yeah, I remember it.

My lone counter argument would be that if they were undefeated at the end of the regular season, you'd be looking at a team that was 27-0 in its past 2 seasons. Fiesta Bowl champs and knocked off Oregon, VT, and TCU in the same period.

At some point they earn a shot.
