Let's not defer discussion away from how fucking awful that call was. I'm still pissed about it. But the Pens aren't playing well enough to be giving in-conference foes points.. I don't care who it is.

Sad thing is that I'm concerned Letang will get suspended. Only because of what they changed the call too.

I think - actually I'm certain - that it looked a LOT worse on the ice at full speed than it did after seeing it a few times.

I'm just wondering what the Islander player was doing - his head was never impacted. In fact, I think if the helmet doesn't fly off there's no penalty.

I don't think he'll get suspended.

Shouldn't matter if it looked worse than it was, there needs to be some way to verify if a hit is deserving of a game misconduct before issuing one. Or they just shouldn't issue such severe penalties if they clearly didn't see what happened.. it wasn't a blindside hit, Comeau was playing retarded.

When I first saw it, I didn't think it was an elbow or a blindside hit. I'm shocked that none of the four refs saw the same thing. Officiating was awful for both sides that game. Neither team deserved to win either.

I don't think the NHL will ever fully take away the power to issue severe penalties from the refs on the ice and I'm not sure they should.

the thing is given that he had the puck more or less on his stick at least 1 ref and one linesman should have had his eyes on him. Even if it was Kerry Frasier. I don't think they blew it nearly as badly on the fly. We've had several replays so far.....I'm not disagreeing but I'm saying once the helmet flew off and the guy didn't get up immediately because he's an actor, it got the ref. He got away with it once, and now he'll probably get really hammered by someone and not get a call. Karma is very active in the NHL.

One ref should be on the phone when a player goes down like that to see if it warrants a misconduct.. too costly to just issue those like one was issued tonight.

I don't want them to take away that ability, I want them to give them the ability to not look like a total idiot after the game.

Them changing the penalty to an illegal hit to the head is the most mind-blowing thing of all.

that's why that kind of stuff is reviewed in Toronto.

You know as well as I do the NHL won't ever think about having the refs call up for a replay on a penalty like that. Well that is unless a certain captain of a mid-atlantic state WHINED enough that is :paranoid:

But seriously, I don't see a suspension coming for it and you can be sure that once the refs see that kind of dive they are going to be looking for it.

Good, this fucker deserves it. I was actually watching this game at the time, and even the Vancouver announcers were saying the fan didn't do anything and that the dude was whack. This came shortly after punching a Wild player who was being held by the refs and then shoving a linesman. Animal behavior has no place in this sport.

Rypien is a hot-headed punk. I hope he likes not playing or getting paid.

I'll be in St. Louis for the weekend. I'll be watching the first NHL game I've ever in person seen not involving the Pens or Jackets. Blackhawks vs. Blues. If you see a dude in the crowd wearing a Pens toboggan and a dark gray OSU sweatshirt, that's me. :banger:

Saturday is Pens vs. Blues. I'll have my Malkin jersey on. Going with one of my best friends and some of his family from St. Louis. They're all Blues fans. I hope we win.

Then Monday I'm going to the CBJ game at Nationwide. This weekend + Monday is going to be ridiculously sweet.

And don't look now, but Sid's annual slow start ended early. Six goals already and he's tied for the league lead in points. Just saying.

Seeing two games in St. Louis with near-capacity crowds (they weren't full, but damn close, even if they claimed a sellout) made me really sad that Columbus can't fill the seats. They need to fucking win. A sold-out hockey arena for a rivalry game ('Hawks/Blues) was awesome. Both fanbases singing the national anthem, bickering at each other, boos and cheers at every point in the game.. it's just awesome. I wish Columbus could experience it.

St. Louis is a great city. Great people. Awesome place for hockey. :banger:

I miss living in St. Louis sometimes. Fantastic sports town. I split season tickets to the Blues with a buddy back in 2002-03...got to see about 15 games that season for under $300...and military got in to all Cardinals home games for free, except postseason. Just had to show ID. Must've went to over 150 Cards games from '02-'06 (including Game 4 of the '04 WS when Boston finally won it, had to pay for that one though). There was nothing better than waking up hungover on a Saturday morning, grabbing some breakfast, then hopping on the Metrolink down to Busch to hang out in the sun and take in a game for nuthin'. Good times.

In the car earlier tonight listening to the NYR/Tor pre game on XM. The Toronto announcers were going over the Rangers lineup and made the following comment on seeing Derek Boogaard's return from a hand injury;

"It must feel well enough to make a fist"

 maybe its just me but I thought it was funny as hell.

New format for the all-star game.....this should be interesting.

The 2011 NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft format, which will continue to include fan balloting procedures, contains the following new features:

? Fans will continue to play the lead role in the selection of All-Stars when 2011 NHL All-Star Fan Balloting presented by XM launches on Monday, Nov. 15. The All-Star Balloting process, which is entirely digital for the fourth consecutive game, runs through Jan. 3.
? From a group of 100 players on the ballot, fans will vote for their top six All-Stars by position without regard to the Conference in which the player plays. Fans will also have the ability to write-in a player of their choice.
? The three forwards, two defensemen and one goalie receiving the most votes will be named the first NHL All-Stars.
? The remaining 36 All-Stars will be named by the NHL Hockey Operations Department for a total of 42 All-Star players (3 goalies, 6 defensemen and 12 forwards per team).
? Following the selection of the All-Stars, NHL Hockey Operations will designate 12 NHL rookies to participate in the Honda NHL SuperSkills on Saturday, January 29 for a total of 54 NHL players taking part in All-Star weekend.
? After the 42 NHL All-Stars have been selected, two captains will be chosen per team by the players.
? On Friday, January 28, 2011, a draft event will be held in Raleigh with all 54 NHL players (42 All-Stars and 12 rookies) during which the captains will draft the remaining members of their respective teams.
? First selection in the draft will be determined by coin flip and selections will continue on an alternating basis.
? Each team will be required to select three goalies, six defensemen and 12 forwards in any order they choose.
? After the selection of the All-Star game rosters, the captains will select among the 12 rookies to fill out the rosters for the Honda NHL SuperSkill
? Each team will feature six rookies participating in various skills competitions.
? Teams will participate in six different skills, including NHL Fastest Skater, NHL Breakaway Challenge, Accuracy Shooting, Skills Challenge Relay, NHL Hardest Shot and the NHL Elimination Shoot Out.
