2009 Under Armour All-America Game - Jan. 4th

Jamie Wood seems like the only one who is struggling. Possible Buckeyes like Marlan Brown and Tajh Boyd haven't really impressed either.

Fellows, Carter, Berry, Simon, Bell, Brown, Mewhort, Fragel and possible Buckeyes Hall and Adams have all received kudos. Haven't heard much about Fields or Barnett one way or the other.

As for Wood, it is mainly his coverage ability that has not looked good. If you are a pessimist you think of Jamario. If you are an optimist you think of Doss when taking in this info. (Or maybe he ends up as the Tyler Moeller/Jermale Hines guy)
IIRC Wood mostly played zone in HS so he's probably transitioning to playing man, and in addition he likely wouldn't be matched up against the best receivers as a safety in Columbus.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about him. He seems athletic and smart but it may take him a bit longer or it could be at a different position.

I forgot to mention Dominic Clarke and Justin Gree. Both seemed to impress the scouts as well.

Just based on some of the scouting reports, I wouldn't be surprised if we see bigger impacts as freshmen from some of the 3 star guys like Fragel, Clarke and Carter than we do out of some of the higher rated guys.

Fragel is a Ballard clone.

But John Simon is by far my favorite recruit in this class.

Based on what ive heard about Fragel, I hope he's more than just a Ballard clone.. Am I missing something? Jake seems like an average blocking TE. He doesnt have good speed, his hands are okay, and he's a solid blocker. I would think Fragel has more upside than Ballard

I like Berry the best probably. I just think he is the perfect compliment to Pryor and could be a star here. I think the group of RBs in general is great. The LBs and CBs are also incredible groups with so many guys with talent.

I'm somewhat taking a wait and see approach with Simon. I think he'll definitely play here and likely start at some point but I'm not sure if he'll ever be big enough to be a star at DT. Is it possible he ends up at DE, sort of like Kudla?

IMHO Wood will be fine once he gets coaching...

He has great instincts, just not great at techinique in coverage yet...He seemed to play more as a run stopping safety in high school, and when he did cover, he was usally much bigger and faster than the WR he was covering...He could still possibly end up on the offensive side of the ball...

His hands are just ok? He's made some pretty sick catches('06 IU, '07 MSU and PSU).

The biggest difference is speed. Fragel is quite a bit faster than Ballard.

I want to see Berry play. My initial reaction to his bio/highlight reel was Maurice Wells. Mo is a good kid with speed but his lack of size has limited his effectiveness on the collegiate level.

I'm looking forward to Berry making an impact. After all, Barry Sanders wasn't big either.
