2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

Rod's Presser Notes Tate just a bruised shoulder, Doctors say he will be 100% by Wednesday. Tate will start this Saturday. Molk out 4-8 weeks. Is using about 25% of the playbook right now. Kevin Grady is playing real well as of late is a true player is the big reason Kelvin is playing as good as he is.

Looks like there was no AC sprain.
Regardless, he's already banged up after one Big Ten game against a lower tier team. I'm quite confident he ends up missing 2-3 games minimum. While his skills fit the system to a tee, his body is simply not cut out for the punishment he's put in position to absorb. He has a small frame too, so he's not gonna pack on a whole lot more, Barwis (!!!!!!11!!1!!) or no Barwis (!!!!!11!!1!!).

Losing Molk hurts too as seen Saturday.

Is that an official BP bet? Let's take it there. How many games are you saying? What counts as sufficient playing time per game?

Lot of football being discussed in here I see.

I already cautioned folks that the fine line between scUM football and shenanigans, and less civilized discussions is quite the blurry one... you wanna talk scUM football, you know 3 other places to go...

You come here for what it is, and you'll never stop.. just admit it :wink2:

If you weren't hated, would you feel relevant? Just felt the need to ask

Significant action means more than a quarter for an injury. But I'm saying he misses 2-3 FULL games.

A quarter? A quarter could be one series, or five. How about 20 snaps? Teams usually average around 75 plays/game, so that's more than 25%. So, is the bet 3 games in which Tate is not part of at least 20 plays due to injury. What are we betting?

The possibilities aren't as plentiful since you are a lot more reasonable than many northerners (in a manner of speaking) that we get around these parts...

Is it wrong that I can think of more 'humor at his expense' ideas for NFBuck?

The flaw in your argument is that presumes RR cares about his players future health and their ability to live after football. I think RR pumps the kid full of every drug imaginable until Devin Gardner (or the next..) come in. Who cares if he has a career or life after football, scratch that, after his usefullness to scUM is over. Something about family values and all. I don't mind betting against Tator but that means I am betting RR does the right thing too.

Whatever they want to call it. I saw a guy grimace in pain from a tap on the shoulder from a teammate. You don't go from that to 100% in 4 days.

You also don't get anymore than 7 days off before rather large angry people continue to pound on that shoulder a hell of a lot harder than your teammates do when they congratulate you on the sidelines.

I know the injections can make a person feel 100% (for a while) but shoulder injuries don't just heal themselves during a football season.

I guess we'll just have to see what happens then.

Well, as you've just illustrated, it's rather hard to quantify...Smithlabs makes a good point as well. I say "significant action", you may say it was not "significant action" or vice versa.

All the betting talk aside, his (lack of) size doesn't concern you? I mean, the kid was wincing in pain following a game against Indiana. Wait til he has PSU, Wiscy, MSU and Iowa tossing him around.

DickRod = Bud Kilmer? Hmmm, never considered that.

As Jaxbuck stated earlier, I feel it very hard to believe he'll be 100% in just four days from the injury. Michigan fans may argue, "If his shoulder was so bad how could he have thrown that winning TD pass?" When I crashed and burned on my bike and suffered the Grade III AC separation, at first the shoulder didn't hurt at all...it took about an hour before the pain started setting in. Also, since his injury is a little different, he may have some mobility but any contact/pressure on the shoulder will be extremely painful. My shoulder was fine pain-wise for the first two weeks as long as I kept it almost totally immobile via a sling...any movement was excruciating, but I could actually push on the area of separation with virtually no pain. Shoulders are weird like that, and they require care in healing. Putting a player back out on the field a week after hurting his shoulder to the point that tapping on the shoulder pads caused major pain will not be conducive to healing.
