scum isn't in this position because they broke the rules. they are in this position because they ran their mouths about it.

My guess is that most programs have little to no reason to monitor voluntary workouts. Performance in (mandatory) practices should be enough evidence as to who is properly prepared. I suppose dysfunctional programs that are forced to resort to meaningless jingoisms might want to take attendance at voluntary workouts, though.

It seems pretty clear that enough players talked about the all day practices on sunday, but it just isn't worth beating that topic to death... particularly not after the inevitable backlash of being one of those quoted about it. seeing who is putting in the work is only one small part of the equation and as you noted. its something that is disturbingly obvious the first day of practice. for dickrod the reasoning for doing so is VERY clear. he is sitting on a squad where the majority of the team, specifically the skill position players, are underclassmen. this season is without question a perception year. what his team does on the field can make or break his career at scum land. a wildly successful season where they compete for a big 10 title wouldn't just change perceptions. it would potentially open the door for contract renegotiations and raises. and lets not beat around the bush here. while the accuracy and severity of the current alleged violations can be debated. mr. rod being in significant need of large amounts of money can not.
if on the other hand this season is a monumental failure he could be facing termination. if that were to happen im not sure what positions would be available that would pay him well enough to meet his financial obligations. if ever anyone had the incentive to "go the extra mile", mr rod certainly does.

I like how they point out the distinction of being the first true freshman starter since 04, seeing as Henne was still starting in 05, 06 & 07. But congrats Tate, you achieved something that Feagin could not, that must be a real feather in your cap :p
Tate Forcier, the first true freshman starter at Michigan since the guy that graduated two years ago.
FWIW, I think Tate will be solid, but the real overhaul UM needed was in media relations.

Yeah. I re-read what I wrote and realized it didn't come across quite like I meant it to. I meant it more from the perspective of monitoring not being worth the risk of an NCAA infraction, because they would know from the practice results. I'm sure most staffs would very much like to be able to have direct roles in any organized/semi-organized "voluntary" programs. As an extension of that, if there is validity to the allegations, it could be implied that Michigan felt they needed to make sure players were "all in".martinss01;1528624; said:
