2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

These blogs have a lot more info than I'm passing along, just trying to point out a few key sections

Go Blue Michigan Wolverine: Michigan Football Tidbits: Saturday Scrimmage Report
#2 star -- Offensive line: They played very well. Now keep in mind they were playing against the second team defense, but they played well. Huyge is the Most Improved Player. He looks like a different kid. Leader of group is Schilling, who is also the best offensive lineman in our opinion.

Side Note: It is nice to see Coach Frey actually having some depth at this position. Last year at this time, he had seven players on scholarship because of the players graduating, players leaving the program with eligibility left, etc. This is not a knock on any of the other coaches, but we believe Coach Frey is the best assistant coach on the staff.
1. Forcier was okay, made good plays and some bad. That is mini capsule of what the season might look like this year.
3. Split Ends: No real deep threat, but were they consistent on short stuff. None of the Split ends was used as a deep threat. As for Trojan (a scheme they use), my team (CoachBt) got from Missouri (Pinkel used to be the Toledo coach before taking the Missouri job and that is where we got our offense from.

...

What your basically trying to do is to force the defense into a mismatch with the Sam linebacker forced to defend one of two slots in the flat, or the running back out of backfield. If the defense overloads or shifts to a three-man side, you have a mismatch or numbers to the short side, and use the running back to take advantage of this.
1. Depth is scary. There are twice as many offensive players as defensive players at scrimmage today. Walk-ons make up a significant part of the two deep on defense. Been trying to tell people this since last spring. Hopefully the 2010 class will see some impact defensive players.

D resources and depth: Coach mentioned that the defense depth is scary. This is not a casual observation; it is indeed obvious and true. Scrimmage or not, I was shocked as to the talent level on the field with the 2nd's and 3rd's. Just flat shocked. Walk-ons, locals, etc. doing what they could as best they could. Forget the academic discussion of how UM got into this position. The real question is how will UM get out of this position

...

Forget competing for the Big Ten title until the D talent gets better. Best case scenario is two years.

Ouch. Good thing they keep getting more slot/wr/undersized rb commits.

Help me out here.

The blogger states:

Tate is good, likely very good. YES, HE CAN RUN. This team cannot afford him running around 10 times a game getting crushed.

Is UM only going to run the read option 9 times a game? He leaves the pocket headed for the LOS and he is fair game.

Munchie Legaux, QB
New Orleans, LA
Edna Karr H.S.

Scouts Grade: 77
Wolverines on top for quarterback Munchie Legaux
Athletic signal-caller Munchie Legaux has Michigan as his current leader, ESPN affiliate Web site InsideTheU.com reports.

In addition to the Maize and Blue, Legaux's holding scholarship offers from Virginia, Tulane, Louisiana Tech and Florida International.

Legaux had a very nice showing at the New Orleans Nike Combine posting a 4.72 40-yard dash, amazing 3.95 20-yard shuttle, 29.1-inch vertical, 31 power throw and 88.68 SPARQ rating.

Please let this happen.

There seem to be alot of Michigan fans that believe they are gonna throw alot. I hope so. If his arm gets "tired" in spring ball in practice what will happen if he has to throw thew ball 40+ times in a game. The might try to start running a Purdue style offense they did steal Roundtree from them:biggrin:

Gray is the second rated LB from the state of Michigan. The other - 4 star Max Bullough - is headed for MSU.

Yeah, but it is obvious that these guys have already heard of Barwis' reputation and are smart enough to know that they are not tough enough, and would just end up transferring anyway. Besides, they are only 4 star guys, rr will get someone from Mississippi or Alabama, or Florida who is faster, albeit maybe a bit slighter as well (say 5'6, 185lbs) who is tougher and faster and can jump higher who can transition to LB from the Slot.
