MGOBLOG said:The evidence lies in piles all around us. One has merely to pick it up and provide a cursory examination. I'm calling fair use on this because it is awesome and unbelievable. Ohio State's scrimmaging and the offense has just driven for a score that brings them within one. And then($):
Then, on the final series of the scrimmage, Pryor was whistled for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty while jawing with defensive lineman Cameron Heyward with the offense poised to tie the game pending a point-after attempt. The penalty knocked the kick back to the 25-yard line, and Aaron Pettrey?s attempt sailed wide right to hand the defense a 56-55 victory.
So far in the brief, eventful career of Terrelle Pryor he's gotten in postgame near-riots after two high school basketball games, pioneered the drama-queen recruiting extension game, trash-talked Illinois fans, cried on the bench after blowing the Penn State game, and now he's taking unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for jawing at his own teammates in a scrimmage. Wheee!
Someone should start a Terrelle Pryor AK-47/Lint Roller Rampage Threat Level. You know, just in case.
And if OSU were returning the 2008 defense intact, I think most everyone would agree that the baseline expectation for 2009 should be a top-5 defense. Given that they're not returning the unquestionably two most important players on defense, as well as 2-3 other significant-to-very-important contributors, however, I don't think you can, in complete confidence, translate and amplify last year's results to this year's expectations. I'm personally pretty hopeful for this year's defense, but given the significant personnel replacements going on, assigning the "amazing" label at this point seems a bit premature.brutus2002;1453691; said:Colt McCoy said we were the best defense he had ever faced. Thats better than our 2006 defense and all the Oklahoma defenses he has faced.
NFBuck we are gonna have to agree to disagree. I do understand your position.
blueinfla;1452982; said:I agree with a lot of what you guys are talking about with the "second tier" recruiting on defense. I will say this though. Other than the name and tradition of UM, what does UM have to offer for a defensive prospect? When was the last time UM had a great defense? 1997?
NFBuck;1453003; said:That's usually what draws in big-name recruits.
Expanding on NFBuck's and southcampus's points a bit, 1) brand name and tradition are, by far, the most important factor(s) in recruiting. The only other built-in factor that matters is quality of in-state HS football, and that's a distant second. There's a reason why Miami(Fl) outrecruits USF and OSU outrecruits Cincinnati: brand-name. UM has that built-in advantage and should be able to generally recruit with anyone. And as far as in-state HS base goes, UM historically takes a back seat only to ND in terms of being able to go strong regionally and nationally to overcome any relative local deficiency.southcampus;1453053; said:I thought scUM fans raved about their defense in 2006 and most Ron English defenses for that matter?

Luc and Hicks are their top 2 prospects at LB'er and are not going to Michigan. Looks like the shot gun offer method isn't panning out for ol' tricky dick.
Drake's teammate has Michigan at the top
Drake's teammate at Skyline, four-star linebacker Corey Nelson, is also professing strong interest in Michigan.

Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa offense scored eight touchdowns while the defense forced four turnovers, three of which led to an offensive score, in 131 plays at the annual Spring Game on Saturday night.
Freshman quarterback Shavodrick Beaver led the Hurricane offense to four scoring drives, while he threw for two TDs and ran 66 yards for another one. He finished the game by completing 7-of-16 passes for 132 and 2 TDs. Sophomore G.J. Kinne completed 15-of-30 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns, and junior Jacob Bower threw for 77 yards and one TD while completing 11-of-20 passes.

"Shavodrick Beaver is just learning. He actually ran the wrong play and turned it into a 66-yard touchdown. I love his spirit. I love how he's competing. G.J. and Jacob made big plays as well. It was the first time out in a game situation, so they all made some errors. But for the most part I thought they showed some good signs. We're really going to be able to throw the football," added Graham.

The freshman Beaver led the Hurricane to three of its final four touchdowns. The first came on an 81-yard, five-play drive in just 0:57 as he threw the final 17 yards to A.J. Whitmore. The second came on a Charles Opeseyitan one yard run, which was set-up by an 81-yard run by Willie Carter. On the second play from scrimmage late in the game, Beaver ran 66 yards for his lone rushing touchdown.
