2009 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

That's the word...but things are moving fast.

If it's between Watt and Hall, I hope Hall is the guy. Watt is a great player, but we don't need to lose the top Glenville kid for a second straight year.

So I'd assume Hall has been, or will be, told that it's between him and Watt?

This is where the info gets twisted...some folks are saying Watt is out, some are saying he still has the offer.

So I guess it depends on which side you are following. Our guys said he still has the offer which makes me think its either/or.

However, if Watt is out, then that says Hall is in for sure.

Depends on where you want to follow

Either way, it's a great problem to have.

Since Boren is not a schollie I didn't think he counted - and if he did I thought he would be considered in terms of the 2006 class.

At least now my 2+2=5 post makes sense.

Longo, Mewhort, Boren, Linsley...

Watt or Hall makes 5.

Just an interpretation...by no means a concrete fact.

I do know that there is at least one of those who is impressive defensively also...

MUCH different turn around from the 2007 recruiting list when all we got was Blankenship.

Justin Boren doesn't count as a scholarship because he's not allowed under Big Ten rules to be on scholarship at OSU.

Besides the fact that grad already said this (two posts above yours), I have no idea what Boren has to do with his clearly defined formula to reach 5.

Well we're at 24 right now. Let's suppose Watt commits and our magic number is 27:

25) Watt
26) Berry - You've got to think he's a priority given his talent, our not having taken a back last year, and the fact that both backs taken this year are specialty backs (Hyde arguably could carry the load, but then again Hall could just as easily end up elsewhere).

Then you have #27 still available. So even under a 27 scenario, and despite the looming loss of Clifford, I think the final spot comes down to Hall, Adams, Ezell, or McGee (or if none of them jump, perhaps someone like Vlad or Muldoon). Our prospects for Ezell are looking less and less likely, and I'm not sure the staff is still pushing for him, in which case it comes down to who decides earlier between McGee, Hall, and Adams. It seems like McGee is becoming less and less likely to choose us, so that probably leaves Hall and Adams. At this moment, it doesn't look like either is near a decision, but I would say Hall is a whole lot more likely to pick us and we have a need--albeit not a pressing one--for an additional OL or DL. I could see it ending up a first come, first serve situation between those two.

Of course, that is assuming we only take 27. If it's 28, then it seems that much more likely we could end up with Hall and Watt. Grad, you're a lot closer to this situation than I am and probably are privy to a lot more info, but putting all the pieces together that I see on this board, it seems like there's still a strong chance we could take 5 OL exclusive of Boren. Of course, I can't explain anything Longo said, aside from positing that what he was really getting at was that several O-linemen had already been taken, there weren't many spots left, so he wanted to guarantee his spot now before getting squeezed. Maybe he just phrased his thoughts poorly? Or maybe I'm just a wishful thinker?

Even if Boren "doesn't count as a scholly" he is still going to be here in 2009. That is somebody who will be a starting guard for at least one, and possibly two years. So having him in the fold could hurt Watt's recruitment. From everything I know, Boren is a guard along with Watt. Since Hall is a tackle, I can see Boren, on top of the seven (counting Hall) other OL already commited over the past two years could affect Watt's decision.

But, however, as long as he thinks he is better than Linsley, I don't think depth chart is that big of a concern. .. Here is my take on the last two OL classes ...

LT - Mike Adams, Sam Longo - Adams could be starter until he declares
RT - J.B. Shugarts, Marcus Hall - It's a toss-up on who would start first Hall or Shugarts, I think Hall has a legit shot.l
OG - Justin Boren, Corey Linsley, Chris Watt - Boren will start, Linsely or Watt could be No. 2.
C - Michael Brewster, Zach Mewhort - I guess Mewhort could move to guard if he can't lock up the C position. I also guess the same can be said about Brewster, but all indications point to Brewster being a stud at C.

The only reservation I see is that Watt thinks that Boren, Linsley and Mewhort are all guards and he doesn't want to compete with three players (counting Mewhort) in a two-year class.

But if Watt was as good as his rankings indicate, he shouldn't worry about that depth chart I just posted.

The number is the significant factor here.

Cannot sign more than 25 on board in one calendar year. Some will enroll early and that will count against last year...

It is all speculation.

My question is; does Boren count as being one of "signed" 25, even though he is not tying up a ship?
