Curious to see Hines deep and Russell in the STAR...odd
A really specific coverage I guess?
generaladm;1520995; said:I thought that move made sense. Hines is probably a bit faster than Russell at this point. Hines can cover the deeper WR routes, while Russell's experience may give him an edge in recognizing which receivers to stay with/switch off. It would also put Russell a little closer to the line for run support.

Hines is a STAR and plays closer to the line because he's more of a LB than a safety...but a hybrid by definition.
Russell is nowhere close to a LB....that's what I assumed.
You may have better incite than I do on this.
generaladm;1521013; said:Russell has had some major knee injuries in his OSU career, at least one required surgery. He's never looked quite the same as he did before the injuries. Hines played safety/RB/WR in HS, and was recruited to play safety at OSU. He can play a hybrid role because he's an outstanding tackler, but is still more of a safety than LB, he's not gotten any mention as a LB this season. Hines will take over one of the safety spots when Russell and Coleman graduate. I'm not sure how their 40 times compare, but Hines looked like he had speed to burn last season. I don't think Russell is slow by any means, but I think Hines is a better 1 on 1 matchup on WRs. Last season, as a STAR/NB, Hines sometimes got caught in no-man's-land when he was forced to decide which of two receivers to cover. I think Russell's experience would help him make those types of reads. Both are capable players in either role, but I like the thinking of playing Hines deep. Reminds me of when they played Malcolm Jenkins as the deep safety for nickel and dime packages in 07.
BTW, it's insight.
