2009 Scholarship Offers

ESPN - Plant, Armwood gearing up for season-opening showdown - Insider

The season mainly will hinge on if there's a seamless transition at wide receiver, where three transfers refuel the position. Allen Sampson (formerly of Gaither-Tampa), Eric Dungy (Park Tudor-Indianapolis) and Orson Charles (Riverview-Tampa) joined the team in January. Dungy's father, Tony, is the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.

Charles, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound specimen, has the most upside. He has already received 21 offers from schools such as Miami, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Ohio State and Kansas.

FWIW, I don't put a lot of stock in ESPN's recruiting insiders and even if Charles does have an offer I don't know how serious he is considering OSU...

Of the offers out there to uncommitted prospects, these are the only one's I'd consider token offers:

Marlon Brown
Stephon Gilmore
Xavier Nixon
Craig Drummond
Devon Kennard
Anthony LaLota
DeOnte' Arnett
Jamiel "Petey" Smith
Jelani Jenkins
Dre Kirkpatrick

That leaves us with 23 offers out to prospects (for max 12 spots?) that are seriously considering attending.

I wouldn't put LaLota and brown on that list just yet...

LaLota I can see why you say that, but there is no way I see us landing Brown. I have no inside info but he hardly ever mentions us unless he gives his top 117 teams. Anything can change but as of now, I would consider him a pipe dream unless there is something I don't know.

Not sure if this would qualify as premium info or not (please delete if so), but one of the Scout insiders who primarily covers SW Ohio is saying that he doesn't believe that DJ Hunter actually has a written offer from OSU.

If true, it makes a lot of sense. It would solve the mystery as to why he hasn't committed yet and why we are tied with Indiana for the lead. It might also better explain the offers to McDougald and Brown as DBs. Maybe they really are higher on OSU's board and Hunter is more of a plan B type that doesn't have an official offer yet.

I don't know why but I've always wondered about Hunter's offer...it would explain quite a bit, as I can't imagine us having offered as many DB's as has been claimed.

Yeah, there was always something about that situation that seemed a little weird. Nothing specific but having followed this stuff pretty closely for the last 4 or 5 years, there was something about his recruitment that just seemed a little out of the ordinary. I had just sort of written it off as his high school having a new coaching staff so maybe communication was just a little off but him not having a firm offer makes a bit more sense to me.

The coaching staff at Middletown has been changed around some, so that could explain it. Not sure if the head coach is the same though, so I'll have to check. I'll also try to check up on D.J. too.

If someone gave you 50/1 odds that we'd get one of the two, would you bet your vCash on it?

No...

I am just saying that they are not token offers to those two...Yes they are long shots, but we are still in on them...

Kilpatrick was a token offer...No chance what so ever...Jenkins at this point no chance...Kennard no chance...

There is a small chance with the two that I kept on the list...
