2009 Polls - Regular and Pre-Season

I haven't looked at the polls. Didn't realize that LSU jumped up in the computers. That doesn't make sense.

um im pretty sure i did 2

But that has nothing to do with the point I was trying to make. LSU shouldn't be penalized too much for that loss. They picked off the ball on the drive that Bama scored a TD late in the game, and that TD turned out to be the winner. The fact that the refs didn't award that INT to LSU (it was pretty obvious) directly resulted in an Alabama TD.

Or did it result in a FG? I know it resulted in points.

So the SEC has now perfected the BCS. They can help both teams every game. LSU gets moved up because of the blown call, and Bama still gets credit for a win. Prepare for UF-Bama BCS rematch after Tebow is stopped on the 5 but given the game-winning touchdown after further review.

I thought they should've been punished, but not too much. I definitely don't think they should've went up.

When I made that post I was thinking that the INT they took away resulted in 'Bama's go-ahead score. But it didn't. My tone would have been different.

My problem with LSU's high ranking is their quality wins... they don't have any. Their best win is probably at home against Auburn.

But they are in the untouchable SEC so who am I, a mere mortal, to doubt their greatness. :roll2:

But the human power is diluted by the manner in which it is calculated in the BCS (total points) compared to the computers (position)

actually, total points gives the human element even more weight.
using total points, it actually weighs how closely the humans think teams are to each other.

example:

Texas and Bama are virtually tied in both human polls (.0068 dif in coaches, .0084 dif in Harris)

Like wise, Bama has a rather large lead over TCU (.0861 dif in coaches, .0927 in Harris)

and this gap shows in the current BCS.
Bama .9516
Texas .9234
TCU .8620

.0896 separating TCU from title game (very similar to the difference the humans have)

using position instead of points, the BCS would look like this:
Bama .936
Texas .930
TCU .880

.0560 separating TCU from title game. (a whole lot closer than the pollsters have them)

SEC refs are fuckin' amateurs. In the Big Ten they make that call on the field and uphold it on the review.

i wish the human polls had more of an effect on the bcs. iowa and lsu wouldnt be ahead of us. but i guess that will all change by next weekend

Have you ever heard a voter try to string together a sentence about college football? It's like watching M*ch*g*n try to play defense, only less entertaining. If anything the computers should be given more weight.

Careful, Nutria.. next thing you know you'll be the National whipping boy for futility in the "big game." :wink2:

got no response to that one.
we played 2 top 3 teams, and lost both of them.

were in both games, and probably could've (should've) at least split them.
but we blew it, and nothing i can do about that now, but take the ribbing that comes with that.
