2009 NBA Playoff Contest

Don't get me wrong, I understand the behemoth of an athlete that Lebron is. However, if lv's being serious; then it's disregarding two major points:

1) The Lakers are the lone team to beat Cleveland in Cleveland. Thus, home court isn't as much of an issue in the Finals.
2) IMO, the Cavs don't have the supplemental players nor depth that the Lakers do. Particularly with Bynum back, this will pose an even greater problem for the Cavs.

I should mention: when it comes to Eastern Conference teams, I'm all about the Cavs. I just can't take them over my "first love".

Neither can I, which is why I'd take the Buckeyes football team over any of these guys (in a game of football, of course)

actually, for NBA teams, the Lakers were also "my team" back when I was a kid. Magic and Kareem... In the East, I liked the 76ers (Dr. J mostly), then later the Bulls (I loved watching Jordan play)

My first memories of pro basketball are the finals when Magic stood in for Kareem to win it all. He pretty much had me at "hello".

Having Greg O in Portland has made me swing a little favor into the PNW as well though.

Based upon what?
Based upon the fact that I was born and raised in Cleveland:biggrin2: In addition, I think that Cleveland over the past month or so have increased their depth to match the Lakers. I also think that Lebron just won't let this championship get away from him.

You guys must be young pups:) The best ever matches were the Celtics with Bill Russell against the 76ers and Chamberlain. Those were awesome series and some of the most intensive basketball that I have ever witnessed.

Understood. I just have a feeling that Lebron will get his rings, but it's at least one more away. Kobe wants to bury that ape that's been on his back since Shaq won one in Miami. Once that's done, then it will be time for Lebron to carry on his mantle.

I must admit that while Ferry has assembled a good team, I still think they are 1-2 players away (and I focus primarily on the bigs). If Cleveland gets someone like a Bynum; then I would say they're IT for a while to come. Until that happens, I think they're susceptible.

Born in '74. I've been told that while the Russell/Chamberlain match-up was exceptional, the '72 Lakers were something to behold. I wouldn't know any more than word of mouth and second hand stories. I would have to say that the battles between Magic/Bird/Dr. J were outstanding.

Here are the standings after Round 1. Nobody got all 8 winners correctly, the top-3 in the standings got 7 winners each.

Of the top-3, only Jake has Cleveland winning the Finals. The only player with that can score points in the 3rd round on a team besides the Lakers or the Cavs is Brutus1 (Houston).

I will post another update when the 2nd round is complete.
