They were talking 14.5 on the tube.

The last two days I was watching golfers on 3 and 14 who were in green side traps pin high bail out to the opposite end of the green rather than hit at the water.

very cool. ive played their a couple of times. to much of a course for me. word was around the course today that stimpmeter readings were in the mid teens... (did they mention the actual readings on tv?) i know they said sat was 13.5 (unreal fast)

as an FYI, the Midwest easily has the best overall greens in the world. The bent-grass combined with the right temperatures for it to excel during the summer months makes for unreal greens. I don't know how many people caught the Senior PGA tournaemnt at Canterbury (Country Club in Cleveland) a few weeks ago, but unreal as well. They were watering the greens in betwen groups to slow them down, and keep scores respectable. Sam Sneed once said he "didn't know what was scarier, death, or a downhill 3 footer at Canterbury".

After Tiger bogied 16 I was thinkinh he had to birdie either 17 or 18 to be safe. Both holes aren't exactly the easiest on the course. I thought he had a better chance on 17. 18's so difficult because of the elevation of the green and the tree placement on the right (around landing area) and the creek along the left. Little did I know the summabitch would birdie BOTH. His approach on 18 was the best I've seen by him, except maybe at Firestone in the dark (like the commentators said). Just straight nasty.
Also, how difficult is 14?! For a super short par 4, that hole is ridiculous.

I don't know why more players don't go down the left side of the fairway- it opens up the green more.

The two times I've played there, I hit it in the left half of the fairway, and the slope takes it on over to the left edge.
Even from the very left edge, you have to hit a fade to get at the back right pin placement.
It's just about impossible to try to hit at that pin from the right side of the fairway, but it sems like that's where most guys hit it.
They shouldn't be scared of the creek on the left when they are hitting an iron or hybrid off the tee.

Anyway, to birdie both 17 and 18 is insanely strong. It's just not fair.

But Byrd should have been 12 or 13 under going into 17 anyway, as well as he was hitting it. Nerves on the short putts on 11, 13, 17 and the chip on 14 did him in.

Tiger difinitely showed the difference between him and most everybody else today.
Rock solid on and around the greens under pressure, and plays better as the pressure mounts, while the other guys (except Furyk) folded somewhat under the pressure down the stretch.

Tiger's round was magnificent and signals to Mickelson that he can kiss his ambitions goodbye for good.

I must say I was really pulling for Furyk. A win yesterday over Woods, in his adopted hometown would have been priceless. It also was nice to see Els in the top ten again. Maybe he also can start to turn his downward slide around.

It was just beautiful to watch the Golden Bear, see all those Buckeye shirts in the crowd and enjoy a few memories.

Memorial

Tiger is unfair. He is so much better than any of the other golfers. The fairway approach shot on 18 yesterday was amazing. 18 is one of the toughest holes on that course. When he is in the hunt, almost all wilt under the pressure. Tiger is one of the greatest golfers of all time.

Move over Jack.

Not really disagreeing with you but the equipment that Tiger plays with compared to that which Jack played with is truly unfair. That is the subject for an entirely different thread because you really can't compare the tournaments won by Ben, Jack, or Tiger.

its not like tiger has today's equipment and all his competitors are using clubs from Jack's era. its all relative.

I agree - it's not fair to compare scores from different eras, but it's reasonable to compare the number of wins from different eras.

Tiger's one of the hardest working at his game (maybe Vijay too) and it shows:
6 a.m. - Lifts weights

7:30 a.m. - Breakfast

9 a.m. - Range to hit balls

11 a.m. - Putting Green

11:30 a.m. - Plays 9 holes

12:30 p.m. - Lunch

1 p.m. - Back to range to hit balls

3 p.m. - Works on short game

4 p.m. - Plays 9 more holes

5 p.m. - Back to range to hit balls

5:30 p.m. - Putting Green for more practice

Practice routine

Not to mention he's always on the range for hours after his round.

I think Tiger will beat Jack's 18 majors, however there are some other records Jack holds that will never be touched:

Jack's Major performances:
  • Starts - 163
  • Wins - 18
  • 2nd place finishes - 19
  • Top 3 finishes - 46
  • Top 5 finishes - 57
  • Top 10 finishes - 73
  • Longest streak of top-10s in majors - 13
amazing....

I wish I would have pasted Lebron's schedule when it was in the Dispatch about a month ago. Extremely similar. Both of them are never satisfied with their games.
