I think the courses that actually got stretched out the most are the one's that have held majors in the past. Besides increasing the rough length and making the greens like ice, making the course longer is really the only adjustments you can make for major tournaments. As it stands today Muirfield Village is only 260 yards longer than it was in 1976.

don't forget about the fairway bunkers. that is the key change that many overlook. there used to only be one or two bunkers on the corner of 18, so guys used to blast driver over the corner. now there are more bunkers further down the fairway so that shot is much tougher now. augusta has done the same thing. they added a bunch of new fairway traps to scarlet as well.
