2009 Depth Chart Discussion

No, he's being held out for spring. That's why Shugarts isn't listed either.

Gotcha...Keith Wells is listed as 3rd string DE and he is being held out as well, that must've been the mistake.

Where are Kyle Michum & Jon Skinner...not in 3 deep as seniors?

Out of our top 6 DTs only 1 tips the scales at 3 bills.

SANZENBACHER IN THE TWO-DEEP AT HOLDER?!? i sure hope someone gets put on the hot seat for this one, how are we supposed to compete when Tressel keeps SCREWING UP

seriously though this is pretty much what everyone expected, LB is kind of interesting but like pretty much every position it's based on seniority more than anything else at this point. i do love that moeller is listed #1 at sam though, and that might be an indicator that the staff might shy away from the 3-3-5 because of possible depth or experience concerns.

I'm pretty sure Mitchum & Skinner were seniors last year. They came in the same class with Person & Rehring.

I think this is going to be a very exciting season to watch who develops into the starters about 3 games into the season.
We have a lot of new (old) guys coming into their own this year and I can hardly wait to see them get their chance.
:oh:

I noticed that many of the freshman are not listed on the numerical roster, though some--such as Klein--are. Is this simply because they have only given numbers so far to guys who came in early, or does it mean that those other guys might be redshirting?

The 4 that enrolled in Winter Quarter are listed on the Depth Chart: Klein, Mewhort, A. Homan, and Z. Boren.

The 3 that enrolled in Spring Quarter are on rosters but not on the depth chart: Jackson (#15), Wood (#23), Barnett (#14). Other freshmen listed on a roster at this point are either those who took a redshirt last season or walk-ons. Other scholarship freshmen from the class of 2009 are not on the rosters I've seen yet.

This depth chart, and any current roster listing, are not an indication of who will redshirt.

I have a class with Keith and I'd put him at 225 max. He definitely hits his height though. Still looks lanky but real athletic.

Those tall and lanky kids sometimes weigh more than you'd think. Keith looked pretty thick last year. Unless he's lost weight, I'd guess he's in the 240 range.

I'm having the mental imagine of the Bucks in a no huddle hurry up offense and Jackson receiving a quick pass near the sideline, making one guy miss and taking it to the house.

Getting the Best 11 on the field

After going through spring practices and the game, I'm curious as to what others think about how to get the best 11 on the field on defense. Rolle and Moeller seemed to be everywhere, but most speculation says that Sabino, Homan and Spitler will be on the field. I know that Moeller is a tweener, but that's 5 LBs... ...and more than half the time, we only have 2 LBs on the field.

I've got similar questions about the DL...is Heyward a DT or a DE. Other than Gibson, who has the speed and strength on the edge? Is Gibson improving against the run? Seems like we have some playmakers out there, but what combination works best?
