UM fans have often argued that RR had to run his system (even tho the I-form has appeared) and would be more prepared for 09. At this point, I don't buy it.

  • The QB would benefit, but I don't believe either will be starting next fall (Forcier or Beaver).
  • The RB could get ready in both systems.
  • The WRs could improve better with the ball in-stride and not leaving the field so often. Mallett would certainly benefit the WR development in this offense.
Maybe Ryan would not have listened. But at this point, he should have tried.

Darryl Stonum is rendered invisible under the current system.

it seems from reading their message boards that their fans have split into 2 groups and are arguing with each other

half claim that this season is Dick Rod's fault the other half claim that its Lloyd Carr's fault

and it is damn hilarious

U-M: Crazy eight (losses)

BY MICHAEL ROSENBERG • FREE PRESS COLUMNIST • November 15, 2008

Michigan just lost for the eighth time this season, the most in school history. But hey, the 1962 team probably would have lost eight, but it only got to play nine games (and finished 2-7). Anyway, what’s another loss among friends?

“It’s behind us now,” running back Carlos Brown said after it was a mere 15 minutes behind them.

...

U-M coach Rich Rodriguez said a victory over Ohio State “won’t salvage the whole season, but it will certainly make you feel a little bit better.”

It would be the biggest upset in the history of the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry.

What about the 1969 Michigan stunner over No. 1 Ohio State? Not remotely comparable. Entering that one, Bo Schembechler’s first team had won four straight games by a combined score of 178-23. Michigan was ranked 12th in the country.

And what about the 1995 shocker? Again, not comparable. Lloyd Carr’s first team was 8-3 entering The Game. Michigan had Tshimanga Biakabutuka and Jon Runyan and Amani Toomer as upperclassmen, and Charles Woodson as a freshman. Plus, Carr had coached in the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry as an assistant, the game was in Ann Arbor and John Cooper had already struggled terribly against the Wolverines.
THAT's debatable[/dwight]
“I feel like all the anger that’s built up this season … it’s been a long season,” cornerback Donovan Warren said. “I feel like everything is going to come together. We’re gonna put it all on the line in Columbus on Saturday.”
Rodriguez said his team can win because “it’s 0-0 when you kick off,” which is what he should say. But what happens if it’s 21-0 at halftime? Or worse?

It’s not just that the Wolverines are 3-8. They are still unsettled at quarterback (Steven Threet and Nick Sheridan both played against Northwestern) and at running back (over the past three games, Brandon Minor gave way to Michael Shaw, who stepped aside for Carlos Brown). Injuries to Threet and Minor have turned the depth chart into a weekly guessing game.

U-M has lost to Purdue’s third-string quarterback and Northwestern’s third-string tailback. How are the Wolverines going to beat Terrelle Pryor, Beanie Wells and Ohio State?

“We take a step forward and we take a step back,” Rodriguez said. “I don’t think it’s from a lack of effort.”
“We are what our record says we are,” Rodriguez said. “But again, we’re making progress Sunday through Friday and it ain’t showin’ up on Saturday.”

No, it is not. Rodriguez’s track record and Michigan’s history suggest that he will win big down the road. In the meantime, this transition is about to get uglier.
