Maybe this has been asked before, and I'm sure the scUMers have a lengthy explination, but if he's such a badass, why didn't he win in the MMA?

Maybe he did but I never hear anyone say he was a former MMA champion, I just hear he participated in MMA.

It's my guess that he just wasn't that great at MMA. I know that might be hard for some UM fans to hear being that he is the alpha and the omega, but that's what drives guys out of MMA. You get your ass kicked a couple of times and realize that there isn't a future in it.

Or maybe he just didn't like it and QUIT!!!

Well the only thing I've heard concerning his MMA career is he was 36-0. Whether that's accurate or not, I don't know.

Yeah, I got that you don't know if that's accurate information or not. I just find it hysterical that the only information you heard regarding his MMA past is that he was 36-0. We should have known it wouldn't have been a mortal record of, say, 10-3 or even 35-1. No, Barwis the Barbarian was undefeated when he hung up the gloves.

Just struck me funny is all.

I believe UM WR Greg Mathews was quoted as saying Barwis was 36-0.

I think the more important question was whether Barwis accrued that 36-0 record vs UFC caliber competition or was he just fighting schlubs in the cattle barn at the county fair?

Great point.

A kid that I used to coach with started into MMA and he actually seemed pretty good....

when he was fighting at the county fair.

That's like saying, if he's such a good football player, how come he was only drafted in the seventh round? Still puts him in, like, the 99.999th percentile of people in the country with football skills.

Doesn't matter how good he was on the circuit - the chances are still extremely miniscule that anybody he meets will be better than him at it.

You can say that about any sport. You measure a professional athlete's level of success by how they do against their peers, not by how bad any PGA touring pro would beat a 20 hanicapper at the local muni course.

The response to my question pretty much was what I expected other than the fact I honestly thought I'd get a higher number than 36.

Well I can help you out with that Jax:
If Barwis had kept on fighting he would now be 150-0.

In fact they would have had to adjust the rules of MMA to make Barwis fights more fair like fighting two guys at once. Or the guy Barwis fights gets to pick a weapon of his choice to make the fight more fair.
