Moreno's bruised elbow tops Georgia's growing list of injuries

ATHENS, Ga. -- The off week came at an opportune time for Georgia.

The 11th-ranked Bulldogs are dealing with a rash of injuries, most notably to star running back Knowshon Moreno. He sustained a severely bruised elbow in Saturday night's 41-30 loss to Alabama.

Even with an extra week to recover, there's still a chance Moreno might miss Georgia's next game against Tennessee on Oct. 11, according to coach Mark Richt.

Crompton, backup Stephens will each take reps with first-team offense

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Jonathan Crompton and Nick Stephens will compete for Tennessee's starting quarterback job this week during practice, coach Phillip Fulmer said Sunday.

"I'd much rather the guy we anticipated being the starter play well and execute like we want. That's not happening on a consistent basis right now," he said.

Fulmer called Crompton's 8-for-23 passing performance for 67 yards in the Vols' 14-12 loss at Auburn unacceptable. Crompton completed a pass to Gerald Jones on a 2-point conversion attempt that would have tied the game, but Jones was stopped short of the end zone.

The pair will alternate taking snaps with the first team offense during practice. Whichever quarterback shows the most consistency passing during practice this week will earn the starting job when Tennessee (1-3, 0-2 Southeastern Conference) faces Northern Illinois on Saturday.

2008-Year of SEC Exposure

After this weekend, do you think it's fair to say the power dynamic has shifted in college fb? And by that, I mean to the Big 12 and a lesser extent,B10?

To wit:

Georgia gets owned-
That game was less competitive at the half than OUR game vs SC. Bama's o-line was a powerful force, and GA looked pedestrian on both sides of the ball.

FL vs Ole Miss-
Kept waiting for it, but not one commentator would declare the obvious. Tebow has been figured out and FL's offense is def. weaker than prev. thought.Miss has an intriguing offense, but they are generally not world beaters

Auburn vs Tenn
Auburn looked only slightly better than a woeful Tenn team.

Arkansas,Kentucky,S.Carolina,Miss St and Vandy are all either downright bad or simply not tested as of yet.

How do you all see the future?
Will the SEC become a shell of itself?
Is the B12 the next rising conference?

I think the Big12 surpassing the SEC has a better chance than the SEC will become a "shell of itself" and I think its simply because there's been no changes in terms of coaching staffs or player development (lone exception - Arkansas and Ole Miss who both upgraded in terms of coaching).

Stable, talented coaching staffs recruit and develop talented teams.

IMO, what they do against each other means nothing.

Exactly. Alabama pounding Georgia doesn't really "expose" the SEC. It just means the polls picked the wrong SEC team to be ranked higher. Once they start losing to non-SEC teams on a regular basis, then it can be said they've been "exposed", but until then...

I third this post. I know that we like to bash media and SEC for the promotion/self promotion, but the SEC schools appear a notch better than the B10 right now. And it starts with coaching...one of the reasons the SEC is relatively strong is coaching. They pay big bucks down there for it and hence their coaching staffs are relatively strong compared to the B10. My guess is that many B10 schools are going to have to pony up if they want to continue to compete.

SEC is 32-20 in bowls for about the past 8 years, Big Ten is 21-28 in that same time span.

Ole Miss beating UF doesn't look like it exposes the SEC to the media, it shows how strong the conference is. While UM coming back and beating UW shows how weak the Big Ten is, to the media. We all know this isn't the case and this logic isn't exactly right, but these are the perceptions of the media, who seems to be about a year behind, because I think the Big 12 is the "top Conference" this year, followed by the SEC and Big Ten. At the beginning of the season I was putting the Pac-10 and the Big Ten tied at third, but some Big Ten teams have stepped up, and some Pac-10 teams have fallen off. I do feel that some of the top SEC teams are very good, and the SEC is pretty deep, but they are not unbeatable as some fanatics would say. I think most could agree with this.

And, if I may, let me note that the Tennesee Vols handed a loss to Northern Illinois by the score of 13-9 today.

So we have that going for us.....which is nice.

Life is good when Chris Fowler makes Phil Fulmer jokes on Game Day.

"Phil Fulmer should head up FEMA, because he knows how to evacuate 100,000 people out of Neyland Stadium."

Big 12 haven't really played each other yet. That starts this weekend with OU/Texas and the upcoming 3 weeks all have a ton of Big 12 games between the top schools (OU, Texas, Mizzou, Kansas, Texas Tech). So they might beat each other up a whole lot.

Personally I think Big 12 is a very close 2nd to the SEC right now but SEC is king as long as the BCS records hold. I know Mizzou destroyed Arkansas and Michigan beat Florida but the SEC has won the NC two years in a row and you can't really argue with that.
