I'd love to just stick with us getting all of Pryor, Jenkins, and Wells but when we offered Pentello last year, we got bombed from the AA game on. So really it's a little worrying just because of last year with the late offers but hopefully guys are just transferring out that we don't know about and has nothing to do with TP, JJ, or Wells.

Pentello had nothing to do with those guys. He is a safety while Barksdale, Davis, and Ben Martin were linemen. Same thing with Domicone and Martin. It's merely a coincidence.

I have to disagree...we had all our spots filled essentially until Barksdale, Wright, Martin, Davis, and Brent ditched us. I highly doubt Rocco gets the offer if those guys came to OSU. His offer came upon realizing the true intentions of those other players. Not saying he isn't OSU material but if the other guys that had been set on OSU would have came here, there just wouldn't have been room for him.

I think that would likely be the case Wad and I guess I just have a bitter taste from last year on this type of thing. I still think we get TP, JJ, and Wells but I'm just being a bit cautious I guess. Through it all though I really think this year in recruiting is day and night different from last year, thanks in part to the staff's more aggressive approach and the Brew Crew.

I forgot about Wright and Brent. You could be right. Still, I very much doubt the Domicone and Martin offers have to do with fellow recruits. Probably just indicates we'll have a lot of transfers or Boone and/or Laurinaitis will declare.

Rumors are JL is coming back. Don't know if it's true, but I have a feeling he stays. I think Boone returns also. He's probably giving up a top 15 pick next year as first OT taken, to go late first, probably 2nd round this year.

Anyways, I think both return. So unless we do have a lot of transfers that haven't been reported yet, it seems something is going on behind the scenes.

For someone who knows better than I, did we have any walk-ons earning scholarships this year? If so, would we take back a scholarship from a walk-on to make room for an incoming freshman?

I don't think it should be a surprise that the plan "B" (and I don't mean that as derogatory) offers are hitting right around now.

This is exactly when the picture on who is staying and who is going should firm up for the coaches. As the exact number (rather than close estimate) of scholies they'll have available comes into focus they're working their way down the list of guys they'd like to offer but weren't sure they had room for.

Why is that a shock?

I don't think it is a shock, but we have lot's of recruits yet, that we'd like to land. There is room for a limited amount of players. I guess what you are saying is, the coaches know who's "in" versus "out" and filling needs accordingly.

Likely...I just know last year the coaches started realizing who was in and out. I tend to think the Domicone offer has absolutely nothing to do with other recruits...I watched his film and thought it was a no brainer why we offered. He simply was under the radar...Nebraska, OU, and OSU don't offer some option B guy on the same day. Martin had some solid offers as well and we are currently thin at FB but I'm thinking this does somewhat have to do with a feel of who is in or out but I'll avoid that. I guess more than anything I'm not shocked because these offers do go out at the end of the year every year but I'm just curious as to who is in and out as far as transfers and declarations go.

We have three senior fullbacks graduating...Martin is a stud. He is the type of FB you can throw to and run...not just a blocker. I think they may have had someone ranked ahead of him and waited but knew hes a Glenville kid and would likely commit. FB don't get alot of press or stars but this is a great get for the Buckeyes. The type of offense we run requires good fullbacks...pretty cut and dry.

Pretty much.

And that in the last month or two the exact needs and slots available finally becomes completely clear.

With everyone coming back (Boone, Jenkins, Robiskie, and most likely JL) and the recent commits of Martin and Domicone, how do you feel about guys like Jenkins, Pryor, Harris, and Wells?

I have no idea.

I'm certainly not going to go against the insider consensus that Jenkins & Pryor are as close to being in the bag as you can get...but those ships have to come from somewhere.

So it is very conceivable that we are about to see a number of kids declare their intent to transfer or (God forbid) be lost due to grades.

If the tons of new offers continue to pop up I might see that as a sign of someone at the top of the list deciding to go elsewhere but in all honesty things have held very steady for quite awhile now and we've really only seen a handful of new offers. In addition those offers are at positions that are either ones they've been pursuing for awhile (safeties/athletes) or ones that everyone was surprised hadn't been addressed yet (FB).

That's about how it should be IMO.

If someone like Elliot Mealer gets an offer a week before signing day I might start to feel the pucker....but right now not so much.

QB's

If you look at the recruiting class breakdown, we now only have 2 QB's, and none on the board other then Pryor. I think that says something. BTW did Bauserman transfer, I saw his name on the "lost" group of scholies.

It also appears OSU likes bringing in offensive linemen in groups of 4 or more every other year, I assume for cohesion. We still need 1 more linemen to fill that trend.

I think JJ and TP are in.

Martin

23 + 16 + 11 + 15 + 17 = 82

That means there are three open slots currently without anyone else leaving the program.

Potential additional schollies:
We still haven't heard from JL yet.
If Torrence's problems are legit that could open one.
Further transfers/attrition

Potential slots taken:
If Terry gets a medical redshirt
If Thomas was granted a schollie
If Domicone commits in the near future

So while things are tight, there is still a bit of wiggle room

We'll have to check with Milli. He may not have put Bauserman back in the "active" list after he was originally lost to minor league ball.
