2008 Ohio State Offense

Here is just some food for thought on the Jr to SR jump in productivity from some big years in recent past.

QB:
1994 Bobby Hoying 2,335 yds
1995 Bobby Hoying 3,269 yds

1997 Joe Germaine 1,847 yds
1998 Joe Germaine 3,330 yds

2007 Todd Boeckman 2,379 yds
2008 Todd Boeckman tbd

[typical BP member]So, Boeckman is going to throw 42 INTs this year. Great. :shake: Our DTs suck. Something about cheese and poop.[/typical BP member]

I'd rather see the '07 PSU game offense. Brilliant gameplan and brilliant execution. We kept PSU on their heels the entire time.

I want to see the 07 Michigan offense. There's nothing as demoralizing in football as knowing the run is coming and not being able to stop it.

I think Bauserman starts in '09. He's certainly capable of running the spread but I think we'd be better off with a mix of spread and pro style offenses.

You don't think that Pryor could run a pro-style set? He didn't come to Ohio State to be second string in his sophomore year...

I agree he's certainly capable, and not just a RB playing QB.

Whether he beats out Bauserman may be another story (captain obvious), but his package reps this fall will give him a huge bump.

Another thing..

2005 Troy Smith 16 TD's
2006 Troy Smith 30 TD's

2007 Todd Boeckman 25 TD's
2008 Todd Boeckman tbd

2005 Troy Smith 11 TDs rushing (27 TDs total)
2006 Troy Smith 1 TD rushing (31 TDs total)

Troy went from a "mobile", scrambling QB to a pure drop back passer. There wil be no such metamorphasis with Boeckman, so don't expect the same 87.5% rise in the number of TDs passes from Boeckman (although 47 TD passes would be nice).

TDs are less crucial to me, I'd rather see this trend repeat itself
1994 Bobby Hoying 2,335 yds
1995 Bobby Hoying 3,269 yds
...
2007 Todd Boeckman 2,379 yds
I think this kind of improvement is very possible (progression-wise, ignoring Beanie stealing yards/plays), and would be more than enough for OSU to achieve their goals.

I can't take credit for that. Another BPer suggested awhile back that we should always refer to him as Morgan "slappy" Trent, not sure who it was. I like it. I'd like to see Trent's official thread read as such.

I have to believe that the goal for TP would be to run a Troy Smith 06 style offense by his junior year. That O had a lot of spread aspects, although TS did not run nearly as much as he did before. I can see TP's offense including more runs, just because he's so good at it. Either way, he'll have to earn the starting spot, and JB's no slouch.

Hoying's improvement wasn't affected much by Eddie George "stealing" yards/plays.

Yeah, I'm the one who suggested it. I was just expressing my happiness that it caught on with at least one other person.

Sure I do, but I think Bauserman will be more prepared for it next year. I highly doubt Pryor did a lot of 5-step drops in high school.

The mobility gap between Pryor and Bauserman far outweighs the pro-style gap between Bauserman and Pryor.
