2007 USA Today Coaches Poll

I agree and echo the statements about Florida and USC. I assumed 11-12 would be a nice start, but not top 10, that was a pleasant surprise. We are very well respected it seems amongst the current crop of college coaches. Wasn't there a website the revealed who and where the coaches voted? Or was that just the ESPN/AP poll?

good start for osu..florida a little high for me at 3 but it will all shake out
That shake out may begin as soon as September 15th.

Tennessee comes into Gainesville battle tested after a road trip to California to kick off their season and an tilt against a lower rated Southern Miss in Knoxville. They will have with them a Senior QB in Erik Ainge.

Florida meanwhile has to gear up with Western Kentucky and Troy, both night games, neither on the road. They have to overcome some significant departures on Defense. On Offense though Tim Tebow is getting champagne plaudits in Gainesville he was not the leader of the NC winning, though for msot of the year under-performing, group in 2006.

Watch out for the Vols to upset the apple cart in Gainesville on September 15th. Then, to save it's season Florida will have to get through three very tough road games.

LSU - 10/6, vs UGA in Jacksonville 10/27 and must finish of their season at home against in-state rival FSU on 11/24. The visit to USC on 11/10 will be no picnic either.

Many pundits have this season with UF running through to an SEC championship game once more. I don't see that as a given at all.

The Coaches' votes are only revealed for the final poll.

Of course, everybody knows that Duke's 1 point came from Spurrier, who has always voted them #25 in his preseason ranking. He's getting more flak about that this year.

Spurrier's Duke nod raises concern

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier again gave a 25th-place vote to Duke in the preseason USA TODAY Coaches' Poll. The Blue Devils, for whom Spurrier was head coach in the late 1980s and an assistant in the early '80s, bring a 20-game losing streak into 2007.

Spurrier annually gives his final spot, worth one point, to the Blue Devils and stays with them until they lose. While all but the final regular-season vote is kept confidential, Spurrier historically has acknowledged he votes for Duke.

"They hired me twice when I had no job," he said Thursday through spokesman Steve Fink.

Said Jim Welch, USA TODAY deputy managing editor for sports: "It's clear that what once might have seemed quaint has begun to lose its charm.
We're hopeful that before next season the coaches association can prevail upon Coach Spurrier to find another way to salute his former team ? or that Duke gets better in a hurry."

Grant Teaff, executive director of the American Football Coaches Association, whose members vote in the poll, said Thursday that he plans to discuss the vote with Spurrier.

After being told he's the greatest all summer, I think Tebow might get a little taste of the Heisman curse without having even won it.

He should get flak about it. The coaches need to decide if the poll is for "niceness," or if its about the best college football programs.

2002 rank was 12th afaik....

I see USC #1 again, that what? 3 times in the past 4 years? :pissed:
1st I dont like Michigan, 2nd hate Florida, and disliking pete carroll is a close 3rd.

I'm not suprised were top 10. We still have a solid team, our biggest departures obviously on offense, then again you coudnt call OSU an offense powerhouse in 02' could we?? We've been here before, letting our D handle the dirty work. 11-2 sounds about right which is another great season and in a year or so ready to make another NC run. I dont like Gainesville sitting @ #3, but I dont think that will last long. LSU will make sure of that. Watch out for Georgia. WVU and USC in BCS title unless my fellas at UCLA and/or Cal have something to say about it
