There are lots of flip sides... The teams going primarily after supersonic speed might be thinking they'll take the occasional humiliation by Wisky's offense while meting out more doses of humiliation by running by a half dozen 250-300 lb defenders whose legs appear to be stuck in concrete.

So we land back into the familiar notion that probably the most resilient and versatile/adaptable scheme in the long run (of an entire season or two) is one that balances speed and power.

agreed 100%

Scheme guys don't last.

Playing Devil's Advocate for a minute, I dunno how true that is. Look at West Virginia's bowl games over the past 4 years (the Pat White era). They beat Oklahoma in '07 (ranked 16th in rush defense), Georgia Tech in '06 (ranked 20th in rush defense), Georgia in '05 (ranked 52nd in rush defense), and lost to Florida State in '04 (ranked 3rd in rush defense). I only list rush defense because...com'n, it's WVU.

The point is, WVU beat some teams with good rushing defenses (and Georgia - who represents the all-mighty SEC with a powerful 52nd rush defense in '05).

and look at what happened vs Pitt and USFx2

Not saying they aren't dangerous just that in the long run give me a team with the right combo of size and speed that can play multiple defenses and a more balanced offense. Never a good thing to be a one trick pony because someone will eventually figure out a way to stop your one trick and have the athletes to do it.

balanced QBs are hard to defend... but so are ripoff artists.

You can say that with almost any scheme if everything goes your way. Its almost indefinsible if this this and that.

The theoretical problems for RR's system as I see it are the same as they were for the triple option back in the day.

-QB takes a beating
-Learning to make the reads correctly takes a tremendous amount of practice time. Every coach will tell you, a team can't be good at everything because they don't have enough practice time to practice everything.
-These two factors combine to hinder the passing game
-The physical pounding on the QB leads to a better chance for injuries and TO's
-Very difficult to come from behind in this type of run oriented offense
-Almost impossible to pass at points late in a game or half when the D doesn't have to respect the run.

As with any scheme/system when its all going your way it works like a champ but there are always weaknesses.

I think what he is trying to say is that WVU's offense was severely limited by Pat White's passing abilities, or lack thereof. A QB with White's mad running sKillZ and a good arm would give DickRod a chance to have a more two-dimensional offense. Rather, the offense is not designed to be one-dimensional. The one-dimensional aspect is necessitated by the lack of the ideal QB.

Too bad the ideal QB for the system will be wearring Garnet & Silver next season. :sneaky:

It's lifted verbatim off of Maizeman on UM's premium board.

Besides the strict policy here of posting premium board information, there's also the matter of passing off his post as your own, 15. Having followed both of your posts for awhile, I see no similarities between the two.

If you'd like to argue you are him, have at it. Otherwise, clean it up. Even if premium theft were allowed here, MM's content is far too good to not be defended.

To be fair, who hasn't beaten Oklahoma in a bowl game?

LOL at scUM's new nickname for us..

tUoO$ - the University of Ohio State

Shit, they couldn't have come up with something the least bit insulting?

I noticed that...

It's obvious to anyone with enough neurons to make a synapse that recruits announce their choice by saying The University of... Ohio State because they are trying to play up the drama of the moment by getting TSUN's (or Maryland's) hopes up.

I'm not suggesting that TSUN fans don't get it; but I do think it's hilarious that they have to pretend to not understand that they are being toyed with in order to come up with a lame, not-even-annoying nickname for us.

This rivalry used to be based on mutual respect; but the coach is leading their fans down a whole new road where that may not be possible (for us) anymore.
