2007 tOSU Football Season Discussion (merged)

I can see that happening. I think if boekmsn is qb then we have the potential to be in a bcs game. If rob or henton start its up in the air based on the fact that neighter have experience YET and boekman has been in the system for 5 yrs. Henton has Troy Smith potential but it isnt gonna fall together his redshirt freshman year. Beanie Will easilly get 1000 yrds and be a heisman candidaate by the middle of the season with the load hes going to carry. The Defense will be more determined and as talented as ever and will be in the top 3 in the nation

I haven't even been impressed with Wells even when he has been in space. He is a scat back but his speed and quickness is not that great from what I have seen. You add the fact that he is not a great pass catcher and I can see why Ohio State doesn't design plays with him.

Watch the N. Illinois game again. When put in specialized situations he can be very productive.

When looking to this coming year, I think having A. Russ healthy and solid safety play could be the most crucial thing on defense!

And on offense, a QB that doesn't turn the ball over.

We get both and we will be VERY tough!

6. Ohio State

2006 record: 12-1 Why to get excited: Forgetting the Michigan and Florida fiascos, the defense should be out of this world now that all the talent is experienced. The team still has as much athleticism and skill as anyone in the country and should be able to beat just about everyone on overall talent level alone. While much will be made out of all the major departures from the offense, remember, this is Ohio State. It replaces NFL-caliber players with more NFL-caliber players. The defense proved that, for the most part, last year, however ...
Why to be grouchy: ... you don't get better by losing a Heisman winning quarterback, Ted Ginn, Anthony Gonzalez, Antonio Pittman, and two key offensive linemen. The defense might get plenty of talent back in the back seven, it loses some great players on the line. Did the loss to the Gators take away the Buckeye mystique? Certainly, the jury is now out about how the team can do against good, fast offenses.
The number one thing to work on is: Use the BCS Championship Game for motivation. This was a far better team than it showed in Glendale, and it needs to find something positive out of the loss to get back to the level it played at for most of last year. This is still one of the favorites for the Big Ten title, and it needs to act like it right out of the gate.
Biggest offensive loss: QB Troy Smith
Biggest defensive loss: DT Quinn Pitcock

Big Ten Countdown - Number two, Ohio State
By Tony Gerdeman
Ohio_St.gif
Predicted Finish 10-2 (6-2)
Two-Cent Overview
During the spring and early summer, it seemed there was more talk about who wasn't coming back this season, as opposed to who was. Rest assured, there is still plenty of talent on this offense to move the ball, and with the defense the Buckeyes have returning, it shouldn't take much more than two touchdowns to win eight or nine games with this schedule.

You can count on Barton to call 'tails'

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - What's brewing today with the 2007 Ohio State Buckeyes ...
BUCKEYE BUZZ: OK, so Todd Boeckman is the starting quarterback. What does that mean for the Buckeyes?
To begin with, at 6-foot-5 and 235, Boeckman will be one of the biggest quarterbacks ever at Ohio State. He'll never be mistaken for a sprinter, so you can forget about him scrambling when the protection breaks down, or else tucking the ball under his arm on third and 2 and picking up the first down.
On the other hand, he's a solid, bright kid, who is liked by his teammates and quick to pick up defenses. He may be limited in speed, but not in mental acuity. He's also not the kind of kid, his teammates say, who takes a lot of risks - or makes many mistakes. So Buckeyes fans can count on a guy who will grow into the position, has a good arm and will likely complement what should be a solid running game. The Buckeyes' easy early schedule will allow him lots of time to take command of the huddle and prove that he's got a lot of upside.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: Captain Kirk Barton said he's already figured out what he'll say if he gets to make the call at the opening coin flip of Saturday's game with Youngstown State: "It rhymes with 'It never fails."'

Kirk picks Penn St., in a blog in the Detroit paper no less... Link

Check out the lovely comments...

Herbstreit is such a homer, he allways picks whoever is playing Michigan. I hope someone calls him out when Michigan runs the table. Also I hope he keeps his unattractive children off the Gameday show, I don't need to see any future OSU towel/water boys.

Just wanted to come over and wish you guys good luck this season. I used to post on here the last couple of years when we had our home and away, I truly wish we had a team of your tradition and fans (the ones that I consider the representatives of your University) on our OOC schedule this year.

Anyway, I plan on checking up on a few of your threads to get a read on what you guys are facing this year in your uphill battle. We have our share of questions as well.

Good luck, I will be rooting for you guys, and look forward to seeing your players take down the Big Ten. Hook 'em.

Big Ten preview
Buckeyes on bottom in 3-team race Michigan, Wisconsin seen as favorites to end OSU's reign in league
By George M. Thomas Beacon Journal sportswriter
Published on Thursday, Aug 30, 2007

For the first time since 2004, Ohio State will find itself in an unfamiliar position not favored to win the Big Ten Conference. Many experts have the Buckeyes finishing third behind the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin.
