You can count on Barton to call 'tails'
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - What's brewing today with the 2007 Ohio State Buckeyes ...
BUCKEYE BUZZ: OK, so Todd Boeckman is the starting quarterback. What does that mean for the Buckeyes?
To begin with, at 6-foot-5 and 235, Boeckman will be one of the biggest quarterbacks ever at Ohio State. He'll never be mistaken for a sprinter, so you can forget about him scrambling when the protection breaks down, or else tucking the ball under his arm on third and 2 and picking up the first down.
On the other hand, he's a solid, bright kid, who is liked by his teammates and quick to pick up defenses. He may be limited in speed, but not in mental acuity. He's also not the kind of kid, his teammates say, who takes a lot of risks - or makes many mistakes. So Buckeyes fans can count on a guy who will grow into the position, has a good arm and will likely complement what should be a solid running game. The Buckeyes' easy early schedule will allow him lots of time to take command of the huddle and prove that he's got a lot of upside.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: Captain Kirk Barton said he's already figured out what he'll say if he gets to make the call at the opening coin flip of Saturday's game with Youngstown State: "It rhymes with 'It never fails."'
