I do agree with that guy ont he NC game game plan though.. No reason to play a soft zone, no blitzing, bend but dont' break type of defense. However everything else is total bull shit. Last year plain and simple our defense wasn't as dominant as it's stats told. This year though we are that good. Hopefully we can put these next two games away and shut some of the national media up!

I know right? I wish we had the real deal...someone with NFL experience like Ron English.

Let's see how English stacks up against Heacock:

........ NATIONAL DEFENSIVE RANKINGS
TEAM........ Rush ... Pass .. Total .. Score
Ohio State ....#3 ..... #2 .... #1 ..... #1
Michigan .....#46 .... #14 ... #20 .... #22

Yep, English is doing a much better job than Heacock...

I can't help but assume the guy that made the English comment was joking. He would have to be right?

Ohio State football
Improved tackling puts defense among the elite

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Renee Sauer | Dispatch
It's important for defenders to come with a gang mentality to tackling, as exhibited on this play against Washington quarterback Jake Locker.

At this point in a college football season, team statistics become truths, and the truth is, the Ohio State defense is having a memorable year tackling.
The Buckeyes lead the Big Ten in every major defensive category and lead the nation in two of the most important categories, allowing 221.2 yards per game and 9.7 points.
"You've got to be able to tackle if you want to be up there," linebacker Austin Spitler said. "I think we've come a long way at it this year. The missed tackles, we track them every game, and they've gone down."

OHIO STATE VS. MICHIGAN: Saturday, noon, Michigan Stadium, WEWS Ch. 5

OSU's robust defense suddenly sickly

Monday, November 12, 2007 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- It's one thing when defensive back Malcolm Jenkins and linebacker Marcus Freeman bite on an option fake and let Illinois running back Daniel Dufrene break through a hole and shoot 80 yards.
It's another when the whole Ohio State defense steps toward the line to stop a potential reverse and Chimdi Chekwa gets beat one-on-one for a 33-yard touchdown pass. It's another when a team that allowed 12 first-quarter points in the first 10 games lets Illinois score 14, another when a completely blown coverage allows one more touchdown, this a wide-open 31-yard score.
Maybe Ohio State could live with all that.

Wow, talk about a sense of hopelessness in that article.

COLUMBUS ? The questions about Ohio State?s defense have returned.
The cracks in its faulty foundation that were exposed in the last two games of last season seem to have reappeared during a 28-21 loss to Illinois last Saturday.
Ohio State came into last week?s game giving up 9.7 points a game and allowed 28. Teams were averaging 65 yards a game rushing against them and the Illini rolled up 260 yards on the ground.
It was uncomfortably similar to the end of last season when Ohio State arrived at the Michigan game giving up 7.8 points and 262 yards a game on defense. But Michigan got 39 points and 397 yards in a 42-39 OSU win.
That, of course, was followed by the national championship game where Florida finished what Michigan started by getting 41 points and 370 yards against a suddenly vulnerable Ohio State defense.

OSU defense out to avoid a late slide
Last season's closing chapters didn't produce happy ending
Wednesday, November 14, 2007 3:57 AM
By Ken Gordon

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

After running for three touchdowns and helping his team score 39 points against Ohio State last season, Michigan running back Mike Hart had this to say: "Their defense played good, but they're not as good as people thought. There's nothing special about that defense."
Inflammatory? Yes. And it sounded like sour grapes, considering that Ohio State won.
But can it be called trash-talking if it were the truth?
Seven weeks after that, Ohio State gave up 41 points to Florida in the national championship game. A once-proud defense had been brought to its knees.

225.08 yards allowed/game (currently 1st in nation)
148.17 passing yards allowed/game (currently 1st in nation)
76.91 rushing yards allowed/game (currently 4th in nation)
10.67 points allowed/game (currently 1st in nation)

Oregon State, BC, and LSU have the top 3 rush defenses. The other OSU has Jonathan Stewart and Oregon on December 1st, BC could drop tonight after playing Clemson, and LSU has Darren McFadden and Arkinsaw next week, and possibly Knowshon Moreno and Georgia in the SEC CG. Could end up with a defensive quadruple crown.

Defensive Passing Efficiency is something we have a very good shot to end up 1st in, and according to some calculations I did in the off-season, it is more important than even Rushing Defense.

So make that a Quintuple Crown!

And we might end up on top in the differential stats too.

But let's at least acknowledge that our rivals were NOT at full-strength today. Henne and Hart played through a great deal of pain today, and I for one was impressed.

...not quite as impressed as I was with Beanie, who ran for 200+ through pain, or with Vern, who made himself $millions today; but impressed nonetheless.

And despite all that, they still haven't recorded a shutout.
