If chris would have just taken a redshirt that could have been solved, and as for the chance/vince thing well you just have to feel for a guy lilke chance, ellite 11 qb in high school and stayed with the program even when it was clear that transfering would be more benificial, very few people have that kind of commitment.

His story sounds similiar to Zwick.

2007 QB Debate

looks like its between three guys this year, i'm gonna jump the gun and start a thread for talk and for things to be merged into.

the canidates
#17 todd boeckman of st henrys. will he be a member of aarp before he graduates? cut from the chris weinke mold, its better to be 30 than 18.
#16 robbie schoenhoft of cincy st x. obviously will be moved to tight end, unless he is morphed into the next big ben.
#7 antonio henton. probably the most popular choice, has anyone see a kid who was being redshirted have so many people wearing his jersey to the game?
# 13 ben kacsandi of wooster. used to be a fan favorite early on in his career, but its hard to tell why the #13 jersey feel out of favor with the fans, maybe it was the performance as the backup in the alamo bowl?
#? rocco pentello of westerville south. hes not good enough to even play mac special teams, but tressel offered him so the sky is falling, will he be able to rescue the program as a true frosh?

(ok that was a joke)

Henton is the fan favorite because we like seeing what JT was able to do with TS. It really opened up the O for us.

I am wondering what JT would prefer from his O. In the past he has been very happy to win with a thrower in a run-first, D and field position type of style (and that did work out well for us as I am sure one or two of you remember). He continued to show he preferred this style giving Zwick every chance to take control of the job.

Then, TS comes along and our entire D migrates to the bigs and we have a bad-ass receiver core. Suddenly it's wide open, spread sets and the likes.

Now, it's back to an established D and an experienced punter. I know we are still going to have a bad-ass receiver core, but is JT willing to open it up without the experienced QB to go with it?

My early favorite (subject to change) is the underdog, Schoenhott. Of course I haven't seen any of the 3 in person, so this is just going off scouting reports, but I like the big arm. JT reverts back to run first with with Wells brothers (or Beanie/whoever if Mo leaves) then opens up a bomb once a half Krenzel to Jenkins-style! He allows the D to control the game and Trapasso to keep us in good field position.

From Maybe a Coaches prospective.

I think that by the time spring ball rolls around, your comfortable with Boeckman as #1- He knows not 1 but 2 systems Going back to the power offense and the recent spread. He learned under both Craig and Troy. I understand the hype about Henton right now because of the QB that we will lose to graduation the NFL not to mention a Heisman worthy year. But I still will reserve judgment until spring ball, I also take more stock in the Spring draft than the actual released two deep, because that gives you a better Idea of what the players think and who they want to lead. (Remember when troy kept being choice #1 no one understood that, now we all get it. Heisman)

As far as Shoenhoft I like the kids arm. He played in the big 33 game and he really has the strongest arm of an OSU QB not named Joe Germaine.
I think his problem is the same as Troy's earlier in his career, reads and progression except with now mobility to cover for it. If he grasps that and learns when to throw with touch, look out !!!

I think Todd Boeckman will be the favorite. He has had plenty of time to learn the offense, has great size, and makes good decisions. During the spring game in 2005 I thought he really had a shot at competing for the QB position. He looked much better than JZ and TS. We'll see how he has matured and if he is ready to take the wheel of this offense.

Spring ball is nice. It gives everyone something to talk about for a few months. How many times have we seen spring game all-stars not make the field come fall? I don't think that we'll actually get a whole lot out of the spring game, this year, except for something to argue about.

Maybe the Buckeyes should try to convince Mitch Mustain to come up here to Ohio.. Yeah he'd miss a year but by next year (Boekman graduating) he could be our starter if the Henton thing doesn't work out (and Schoenhoft)...
