The Buckeyes and coach Jim Tressel begin to pick up the pieces from the disastrous showing in the national championship game today with the official announcement of the 2007 recruiting class. But much like that night in Glendale, Ariz., not much has gone right for the Buckeyes during the recruiting season.


While they await word on the remote chance of adding another one or two commitments, the class currently stands at a rather slim 15 recruits. With the early departures of Ted Ginn, Antonio Pittman and Anthony Gonzalez to the NFL, Ohio State's already thin senior class for next season just became anemic.

Columbus- The 15-player recruiting class expected to be signed by Ohio State today is small by design but deep with highly rated players, according to recruiting analysts.
Recruiting Web site rivals.com ranks Ohio State's prospective class 13th in the country and second in the Big Ten behind Michigan. Web site scout.com ranks Ohio State 14th.
Players can officially sign national letters of intent with schools today, and OSU coach Jim Tressel will hold a news conference this afternoon to talk about the newest Buckeyes.

As if the woeful showing by the Big Ten?s two top dogs in the bowl games wasn?t bad enough, the league will have to deal with a little more ignominy today on national letter of intent signing day.
No Big Ten team is expected to crack the top 10 of recruiting classes, and Florida ? fresh off its 41-14 humiliation of Ohio State in the national championship game ? should hold sway at the top of the heap. But longtime recruiting analyst Tom Lemming sees it more as an aberration for the Big Ten than a trend, especially in the case of Ohio State, which he ranks 15 th, and Michigan, which he has 11 th.

I have read a few articles and a bunch of chats where people are down and out about Ohio State (it's recent lose in the NC game and recruiting: ones who got away).

Why are there people who think the sky is falling at The Ohio State University? So what some big fish got away. The OSU football team is loaded with talent period! The sky isn't falling. Let people count us out next year. Here is what we have (which I think is an awesome team for 07):
Offense:
Wells, Saine, and Herron at RB. Johnson and Olson at FB. Boeckman, Schoenhoft and Henton at QB. Dukes, Lyons, Robo, Hartline, Small, Washington and Sanzenbacher at WR. Nicol, Smith, Ballard, Miller at TE. Mitchum, Person, Kerr, Blankenship, Whaley, Barton, Boone, Rehring, Skinner, Cordle, Browning, and Smith at OL/OG/C.
Defense:
Abdallah, Denlinger, Larimore, Heyward, Barrow, Gholston, Wilson, Williams, Worthington, Dublin, Rose, Thomas at DL/DT/DE. Grant, Terry, Freeman, Laurinaitis, Spitler, Gibson, Homan, Johnson, Moeller, Hines, and Rolle at LB. Washington, Schwartz, Russell, Gant, Clifford, Oliver, Pertello, Torrence O'Neal, Patterson, Jenkins, Amos, Chekwa, and Evege.

People we are going to have a very good team next year. We have lost some great players but this is The Ohio State University! We WIN PERIOD! That is it. People can talk about recruiting and the rankings but look deeper. Tennesse finishes in the Top 10 every year in recruiting but finishes with 3-4 loses ever year. The sky isn't falling. OSU will be just fine, winning 10 to 12 games next year. 2008 will be a strong and experienced team. Add this years recruits and next years.

Who said we don't expect to win? The fact is, regardless of our strenght next year we did take major blows with the loss of juniors, seniors, the recruiting class, and the NC game. The silver lining is all the returning plus teh good recruits we're hauling in.

The next time we complain about tOSU Admissions, know that we aren't the only school dealing with it as Clemson lost SIX commitments/leans in the last 24 hours as the admissions committe waited until the week before NLOID to decide on kids....

Clemson Pulls Rug Out From Jones

 When Shrine Bowl WR Dwight Jones (6-3 210) of Burlington, NC made his official visit to Clemson January 19th, he was given the red carpet treatment by all accounts. Tuesday night the Tigers pulled that rug out from under Jones. According to Jones, Clemson contacted his head coach Steve Johnson earlier in the day and informed him they could not sign Jones for academic reasons. "They said something about my grades or something," Jones said Tuesday night. "They've been recruiting me for a long time. They said something about a committee and my GPA."

LMAO!! ESPN is reporting that we've lost our fence in Ohio, because a single kid (Martin) went to Tenn. Ridiculous.
ESPN is definitely selling the "sky is falling" concept... saying that we have no solution at QB or WR. Also saying that we failed to pick up a QB -- when it was actually the staff that decided to NOT take a QB this year (and smartly so). They really amaze me sometimes... only ESPN could have a 10-minute special on how the Buckeyes are on the decline.

That was entertaining. Michigan is going to start to beat us as well because we have no talent at qb and scUM has Chad Henne this year and Ryan Mallet after that. Basically, the Ohio State football program should shut down tomorrow because of this class was the theme.

backlash

I am sure that all the negative press we are getting right now is backlash from the disaster of january 8th. Many of you might have been successful in putting that game out of your mind (I have been trying) but it DID happen. So now, after three months of being lauded in the press it is now cool to bash the Buckeyes.

That's okay. We need a little more whipping before we get back to it.

We still have a hell of a lot of great players and a pretty decent coaching staff.

I wish we had some more big guys, but with our strength and conditioning people we can be a mean, fast team.

Opponents don't really know what to expect this year with new people at so many skill positions on offense.

So let 'em have their fun now, running down the Buckeyes. We'll be fine. I like all the young men they got and am looking forward to the Beanie and Boom show!
