Spurs win NBA title after rally falls short

CLEVELAND - There was finally a championship won in Cleveland.
Of course, the trophy won't be staying.
The San Antonio Spurs finished the job on the Cavaliers Thursday, sweeping them out of the NBA Finals with an 83-82 victory in Game 4.
The Cavs died hard, mounting a furious fourth-quarter comeback attempt, but it merely will be a footnote in history as the Spurs popped the champagne on their fourth championship in the past nine years.
Much as the Cavs tried to earn a measure of respect by preventing the Spurs from celebrating on the floor at Quicken Loans Arena, the fingerprints on the final victory mirrored the course of the rest of series.
The Spurs made the clutch plays, and the Cavs were unable to put forth their best effort to try to stop them. Among strings of missed open shots, unforced turnovers, and chunks of crunch time when they weren't able to corral a rebound, the Cavs crumbled.
As he presented the Larry O'Brien trophy and then the Finals Most Valuable Player Award to Spurs point guard Tony Parker, NBA Commissioner David Stern correctly called the Spurs ``a team for the ages.''
